Role of guardian ad litem???

I'm in the process of adopting a 14 year old girl who is in a residential treatment facility. I've just learned the name and phone number of her guardian ad litem. However, I'm unclear in Georgia on exactly what her role is in the current situation. Termination of parental rights happened years ago and there is no reunification plan. What, exactly, is this person charged with doing?

I'm plowing through 100 pages of documentation I got from the internet and most appears to deal with custody disputes or which set of parents the child should live with. None of it appears to apply here.

If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful. I've never met this person and have been the identified "adoptive resource" since March 2004.

I am sure Catlover has her answer already, but for the future...

The guardian ad litem looks out for the best interest of the child. Here in GA. our daughter's guardian ad litem was the attorney who represented our daughter at the TPR.

DFCS has their own attorney handling the case. Since DFCS is the agency requesting the TPR, their attorney is the "lead" attorney.

During the hearing for the TPR, both attorneys, DFCS & Guardian, as well as of course, the attorney for the bmom, questioned witnesses.
