Hey all you NC adoptive parents, WAKE UP!!!

Hey N.C. prospective adoptive parents, where are you? I know you're out there. Let's all band together and get some support going here.

I'm new to this forum but would like to talk to some others like myself who are at least on the same side of the U.S.

Hello..... are you there??!!!

Would love to read some posts:
What are you doing while you wait?
What helps you cope?
What stage are you in?

DH and I are already done with our home study and will be happy to offer information if we can help anyone in anyway.

Hope to hear from some Carolina girls real soon!!!

I'm in NC-

I've been waiting- and planning to adopt through the foster care system.
I adopted 3 years ago after waiting 3 years. (Special needs, originally from Russia!) I've got one fs now, and am thinking we'll be able to adopt him...
Still looking for a girl- ages 0 to 10.

We've been HS ready for 6 years. I don't necessarily need an infant, so we've been doing foster to adopt.

Another Carolina family

Hello everyone!

We are a North Carolina family. We have adopted thru the foster care system. My husband and I were preparing to go to Belarus when we received a call (from a friend) asking us to adopt an almost 3yo boy and soon to born boy (turned out to be a girl!). We have been extremely blessed. I will be glad to help anyway I can!

Good luck to everyone.

NC girl here

My husband and I started the process in 2002, took MAPP then I got sick and we put it on hold. In Feb 2004 we got back in touch with our caseworker and by June 2004 we had an approved homestudy. Initially we thought we would do best working with DSS, however, this has proved to be very stressful. So, we contracted with an agency on 11/11 and are anxious to be matched {soon}.

Happy Turkey Day!

Wow! I was told you could only work with one agency.... Are you doing one private and one public?

my husband and I are just starting... we've know we will adopt since we were dating (8 years ago) but have been moving around a lot. we're more settled now and it's exciting to finally start. we've had a couple of meetings with agencies and will hopefully start the homestudy process this week or next.

we have a birth daughter who will be 2 in Jan. we're looking forward to a brother or sister for her!

we're in winston salem, moved to NC in May from the midwest.

Is the homestudy stressful, or more of a way to get to know eachother?

I was stressed BEFORE the homestudy, but it was no big deal. It was like meeting a somewhat nosey friend for tea.
I've gone through two since that first one... they no longer bother me at all!

Homestudy

I just had my first homestudy visit yesterday. My husband and I have been appointed by the bmother to adopt her son. He is in foster care at the time. We are in NC also. This is something totaly new to us. We have had our background checks come back already, but were told the fingerprinting usually takes 2 months! This is almost unbelievable. We started inquiring into the process when he was about 3 weeks old. He is now 3 months old. We were told that we cannot have visits with the baby until the fingerprints come back. Our cs said they were already sent to be processed. We were fingerprinted about 2 weeks ago, but I am not sure when they were sent to SBI and FBI. The process is so long. Since we were appointed by the bmother, I assumed the process would progress quickly. I am not complaining as I have so much to be thankful for. I am the bmother of a 18 year old daughter and a 9 year old son. We are just an anxious family waiting to share our love with the much anticipated child!! I know that we have the bground checks, fingerprinting, hstudy, and we had to do the financial statement. Other than that, what else are we to expect? Are credit scores used to aide in the decision? We would like to know as much as possible.

Hello amissingpiece, Who done your homestudy? Fees? Can anyone else tell me who they went thru for their international homestudy and how much the fees were? We live in Wake Forest and have 3 bio children. We are currently taken MAPP classes and will be finished in another week. We are going to foster for now and adopt later, unless God stomps his foot and says we need to keep that one. We have fell in love with a 13 yr. old girl from St. Petersburg, Russia but we can't afford the fees or the 2 trips (both parents) away from our other children right now. More later.

I thought I'd wake this thread up again. We live in Scotland county. We have 5 bio kids(4 living,we lost a son when he was 7 months old) and 1 adopted child. We are going adopt our youngest childs bio sibling when he/she is born in June. This is a family adoption, my hubbys sister. We had to have a home study, but didn't need to be finger printed etc...( at least not with the first one)

We just moved to NC, to the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area. We're in the research, learn, read, and research some more phase. We'd love to hear from anyone using an NC agency for a domestic adoption.

Talking

Hello ALL
So glad you are awake now. My hubby and I are awaiting a girl. We are with an Agency in CA. We went thru Children Home Society of Greensboro for our homestudy which was for an international adoption from Russia. We then changed to domestic. Long story. But If any of you are in the surrounding Greensboro Area, we have a stay at home mom group, which is for all mothers whether you adopted or not, we dont care!

Take a look, we are going to meet soon!
We would love to have you!
