Considering adopting/fostering 17 yo from Canada
Hi,
We are considering opening our home to a teen we know on-line. He lives in Canada in a neglectful situation, and needs some help making it into adulthood. Is there any way to have him come live with us legally? Does anyone have some advice? If he came here would he be required to register for the draft at 18? Could we set it up as a foreign exchange kind of deal? Thanks for any insight. |

Canadian law
If he is being neglected then he would be involved with Social Services up here. Canada is part of the Hague convention and as such, Canadian kids stay in Canada. There are plenty of afamilies/ffamilies available here.
However, if you were to be given permission from his parents/guardians - Canadians can visit the states for 6 months without a visa. If not, it would be considered kidnapping. |

Interesting. He has been involved with social services, and repeatedly tried to get into foster homes. He has also stayed in a safe house for a time but when he responded positively they kicked him out so someone else could get help and now things are bad again. The 6 months with permission thing might be a good option. Thanks.
