tuition breaks for college?
Does anyone know anything about college tuition breaks for foster kids? We are looking to adopt a teen from missouri, but we live in Illinois. This would NOT be the deciding factor, but would help very much in our planning.
Thanks for any guidance, Jill

Each state decides how they will use the Federal money offered for Adoption Assistance of Foster children or Special needs children.
Many states do have wonderful community college and state university tuition saving systems for 'any child who has ever been in foster care' other states require that the child was classified as Special Needs and recieved an adoption assistance subsidy.... I would make sure that you apply for adoption assistance subsidy before you finalize an adoption. Most children over a certain age qualify as special needs. Also do not forget the over $10,000 TAX CREDIT for the adoption of a Special needs child this could go a long way in helping with college for an older child! My best advice is to find out who to contact in your state for info on the Adoption Assistance Subsidy these people generally know a great deal about the different things our children can access to help them.
