Where is everyone in KY

I check in on this forum from time to time to see how adoptive families are doing in KY. However there has not been any activitiy out there . So whats going on. Did everyone get thier new babies and just don't have time to chat about the experience? We are on the slow side of our adoption and I need to read some news. So lets have it.

We're in a no news phase too. Almost done with the dossier for our next adoption, which we plan to submit in the next week or two. Then it's hurry up and wait. Our first two children are making the transition to summer, which is somewhat rocky but getting better by the day. We have a new dog who keeps us busy, and we've been trying to clean up and dry out after the storms. Speaking of which, how did everyone else fare, especially those of you around Lexington and the other hardest-hit areas?

We survived the storms well. However we do have a tree in the back yard that is on its way down. It is leaning so bad, I won't let the kids go out there to play until something happens. It is a huge tree and will cost alot if we have them remove it. If it falls on its own homeowners will pay for any damage. Which wouldn't hit the house anyway. So since money is tight right now and more storms on the way we are going to wait and see what happens.
Our kids are loving summer so far. Both are playing ball and going to the pool alot. So I am sure summer will fly by for us. And since we are looking forward to winter (expected referral and travel) that will be great. I never thought I'd say I can't wait till winter. CRAZY!!!!
Thanks for the reply

Hey,

I'm in Western Ky. adopting internationally. My husband and I just had our first homestudy meeting today. Not really been dealing much with the state other than local agencies doing our homestudy and INS materials. Anyone else adopting internationally living in Ky?

Hi Lissa

We're in Williamsburg, in SE Kentucky, last town before TN on I-75. We have two daughters, bio sibs adopted from India adopted in March 2003, and are pursuing the adoption of another toddler from India. We will submit our dossier soon, perhaps as early as next week, then it's hurry up and wait.

Where are you adopting from? I know a family in Jellico (TN) with an adopted child from India, one in Corbin with daughters from India and China, a colleague at the college has twins from Russia, I know families in Frankfort and Knoxville with daughters from India, in short, there are quite a lot of us out there!

Howdy again.

I'm adopting from China. We are in the middle of the homestudy process and will have to come to a huge halt soon as I have to travel to Alaska for 6 weeks to work. I'm none too happy about this. However because of that trip I may be able to answer Shay's question...I called CIS about trying to get my fingerprints done in Alaska. (No way they said--and gosh they were really nice about how they told me that piece of information--NOT!) When I asked about when I could expect to get an appointment for fingerprinting they said they were now fingerprinting the people who had submitted thier I600A on April 15. After that It would be at least another 4-6 weeks to finish the fingerprinting process. So...hopefully that gives you an idea. They also said it could go faster or slower for me depending upon how many other people sent in forms between April 15 and when I turned mine in. Anyway, I probably won't get my forms in until Mid August when I return from our 49th state. (Or is it the 50th?)
I've not met anyone else who is or has adopted internationally where I'm from, so I feel pretty alone. Anyone out there from Calloway County?

Thank you...

...for the information Lissa. We did our fingerprints May 28th. So the way it sounds we could get our 171-H approval around June 25th?

Well thanks again for your info, and good luck to you!!!

Soon to be waiting - again!

Hi! I am relatively new to the site. We adopted our son at birth in February 2002 and my husband and I are filling out the application paperwork for our second adoption. We are going through a private agency for a domestic adoption, the same agency that we went through to get our son. Since it has been 2 years, we have to start from scratch again, so the orientation and training evening and the homestudy is still yet to come. It will be nice to communicate with other folks in the process and I am curious to see if the wait will be as nerve racking the second time around. Of course, this time I have a two year old to distract me which will help take the edge off the anxiety! Would love to know what's going on with other prospective adoptive moms!

I have my second homestudy meeting on Sunday. I really enjoyed the first visit. After much fear and anxiety it was really fun and low key. I like our social worker a lot so I totally credit her for that. We did our physicals. Came out okay and got the official okey dokey from the doctor. I've finished my autobiography--just trying to stay busy reading about parenting and car seats etc. and staying positively focused. I can't wait to go to China to meet Lydia.

After 20 years living in Kentucky, we moved out of state this spring. But, we had to do our international adoption through the Louisville CIS office last year.

It took a month from the time we sent in our I-171H form to when we were fingerprinted, but it was only 1 week from when they got our completed homestudy. It took another 3 weeks to get the paperwork back. It was equally as quick when we submitted our I-171 in September. BUT, we had a major problem that almost made our son miss his first Christmas home.

They sent only a copy of our I-171 to the consulate, rather than sending the original. They filed the original with the National Archives, somewhere in the Ozarks. After 2 weeks of lieing to us about where the form was and what they were going to do about it, DH finally threatened to call the media. They had our original file in their hands again 48 hours later, and 48 hours after that it hit the consulate in Africa. But, other than that, the turn around in Louisville was super fast, at least last summer and fall it was.

we've been stationed at fort knox for about a year and a half. we are seriously considering adopting via kentucky state adoptions. we are taking a break from infertility treatments right now and just weighing our options. we know we definitely want to adopt... we're just not sure when.

Adopting Internationally from Kentucky

Hi,
Our plan is to adopt internationally from Ukraine. We just finished our homestudy. We submitted our I600A and are waiting to be fingerprinted. We are in Fairdale, KY (5 minutes) from Louisville.

Our appointment was on a Tuesday and they told us it would be two weeks, however our agency got the notice in just one week.
We have seen that everything in the state has been faster than they tell you it will be. We know that when it leaves the states is when things will slow down.
