in state adoption of a relative

hi i am sorry if i am in the wrong room but i wanted to know about home studys. i was in another forum and a women said there is no in home study if you are adopting a relative also i am looking for info on adopting a child of the state as a relative

Actually, they are both right and wrong at the same time. You do not need a home study if the child is a very close relative. (I don't mean that by actually knowing the child, I mean it by family relation- niece, nephew, grandchild...) If you're not in that immediate family relation, you will have to have a home study.

We are a relative placement, but ours is more of a distant relative, so we had a home study. They really aren't too bad and we've actually had more than one.

If you are serious about your intentions and the child is in foster care, get a hold of the CW or SW immediately. You must not dawdle about this. The quicker, the better.

I think homestudy requirements actually vary by county. I'm in MN - I had to have a homestudy to adopt my stepson (although my husband & I had had sole custody for 4 years), and my inlaws had to have a homestudy to adopt their grandchild who'd been living with them for 10 years. From what we were told it seems our county is somewhat stricter than others about homestudies.

the child i want to adopt is my niece by marriage, my brother's, and i am calling child welfare tomorrow. thank you so much for your answer. i hope she will be coming home soon.
