what's out there for us?

Hi. I am a resident of Arkansas and am married to a woman who has Cherokee blood. Her name is registered with the Cherokee nation in Oklahoma and she holds a card. What are our chances or opportunities to adopt a child from the Cherokee nation in Oklahoma. Do we have an advantage since my wife is Cherokee? Please provide some general info. We might want to look down this road for adoption opportunties. Thanks so much.

First you need to contact the Cherokee Nation in Talequah. My husband in Cherokee and has a CDIB card also. You need to do the classes and have your home study done, but the good news is it takes a lot less time to adopt through them than it does through other means.

Our worker who did our home study was out of Sallisaw and her name was Dorie Girty. Really sweet.

We got our son two months after we finished our home study with the Cherokee Nation. We also got everything done through DHS also (we did that first) We foster-adopted. But they usually won't place unless they are almost certain that the placement will end in an adoption.

Hope this helps.

Cindy

We are considering going thru Cherokee Nation to adopt. (I have my Cherokee and Delaware cards and CDIB) I've been told that it takes a very long time if you try to go the CN. Someone told me it can take years.
