The FINAL adoption of our son happened in October 2003. He has mulitple disibilities and has had medicaid since birth. They told me at the adoption that he would be issued a NEW NUMBER and a new card would be sent. IT HAS BEEN 4 months since we adopted and i have been able to order supplies that i need without any problem.
WE ARE SCHEDULED FOR SURGERY IN 2 days and i just got a phone call from the hospital telling me that his medicaid will NOT give prior approval for the surgery because his name and number dont match. We had to cancel the surgery (they told us that he is NOT being refused the procedure HOWEVER if we do it WITHOUT medicaid approval WE WILL GET THE ENTIRE BILL including the doctors fee/ hospital/anesthesia etc etc. does anyone have any thoughts on HOW long is reasonable to wait for his new name to catch up with his new medicaid number. UGHHHHH!!! sometimes this system frustrates me. There are no post adoption services and it is very frustrating nikki1262 |

you need to contact your adoption worker immediately, i adopted my son at the beginning of dec and had his new cards with his new name before the end of the year.

caseworker
Lord knows we dont want to "attack the caseworker" but it took me 6 years to get the adoption done so to say the worker is speedy is an understatement...
i did contact her and she said.. "there will be NO PROBLEM" they can bill under his old name... which of course is not true. The hospital will do that however we run the risk of getting the UNAPPROVED bill from the hospital.. thanks for the suggestion and ill kwpp trying.. |

have you called the actual medicaid office. before my son was adopted, i called them to see what would need to be done, they told me that i could call and have things switched. my adoption worker (this was her first case, so she was not so overwhelmed and on top of things) had called before i even got a chance.
