Colorado Adoption Center (CAC)

Has anyone gone through this agency? Colorado Adoption Centeris in Fort Collins. It is a evangelical Christian, private, nonprofit, professional adoption agency. What do they mean by private anyways? I know someone who works there (a parent of a student at the school I work at). It seems to be a smaller agency and I don't know if that is good or not. We have also received info from Bethany Chrisitian services. Just confused on what agency to choose. We are looking for a caucasion infant. The CAC info packet did say that the wait time was on average 18 months to 3 years. Does that beginning wait time seem really long? Any other agencies you would recommend?

Thanks!!!

CJ

Hi CJ,
My husband and I also are looking at Fort Collins adoption agencies. In my opinion, that is a VERY long wait. It seems that the smaller, local agencies tend to have a longer wait than the larger, national agencies. Looking at the previous posts, it seems that Adoption Alliance (located in Denver and Grand Junction) is popular and well recommended. Good luck!- Molly

Thanks for your reply about CAC. I posted that message a while ago and we have decided to go through Bethany Christian services and have started the process. I know someone that works at CAC so I speak with her several times a week.

Hi CJ,
Thanks for the words of encouragement! It helps. I realized how old your post was after I posted a reply to it. My husband and I did our adoption classes through Bethany last January, and we both really felt welcome and learned so much from them; they were our second choice. Best of luck to you!!!

Our adoption education classes were a two day event, and we covered a lot of things. The first day covered introductions with the other prospective adopting parents and introductions with the Bethany staff who were conducting the classes. We also broke up into groups and covered several topics that the staff suggested (ie myths about adoption, open vs closed adoption, etc.), and we watched a video on open adoption. Also, one of the staff shared her own adoption story, so it was nice to hear an adoptee's story. :-)
The second day we did some reading (they give you a folder with a lot to cover in it, but it is all very interesting, and they also handed out a list with suggested reading material that my husband and I found very helpful). And they had an adoptive couple and the birthmom of their baby come in and share their story with us. That was probably the very best part.
My husband and I were initially very uncomfortable with the idea of an open adoption, but hearing their story and witnessing first-hand their relationship put us more at ease with the idea.
I hope this helps a little. It was really very imformative and quite fun!

Colorado Adoption Center (CAC)

My wife and I just had our son place with us through Colorado Adoption Center. We felt that CAC was the perfect fit for us. It is a very small agency, but we chose them for that very reason. We wanted an agency that knew us personally and used that knowledge when considering our options. In regards to a timeframe, we chose CAC and were placed with our son 9 months from then. So from the time our home study was done, it took about 2 months before we were matched with our birth mother. We then waited 2 months for the birth mother to have our little miracle. He was born on Dec. 19th and we picked him up on Dec. 20th. The adoption will be finalized in 6 months. I cannot give Colorado Adoption Center a better endorsement. They were everything we could have asked for and I will use them again!

Cac

I realize that most of these posts are several years old but wanted to let anyone know who is wondering about Colorado Adoption Center that it is a wonderful agency. We adopted both of our children through them, 15 and 13 years ago. Everyone at the agency was wonderful and we still hear from Julie (the director) every year. They made everything easy for us. Yes, we waited over two years for our first child but our got our second child before our first was even two years old. Couldn't be happier with their level of professionalism and helpfulness. They made our dreams come true. We got both of our kids straight from the hospital and even though they aren't related they look just alike and they both look like both of us. One was a closed adoption and the other we met the birth parents. They will work tirelessly for you and encourage you all the way. Working with a small agency was a wonderful experience. Thanks for letting me share.
