Do you have to have two attorneys for a private adoption?

Hi all,
My husband and I are just getting involved in a private adoption with a 19 year old girl in Ohio. So far she has been extremely supportive and cooperative with us. She is due in 4 months. She has said she does not feel like she needs or wants an attorney eventhough we would be paying for it. If we have a competent attorney and the birthmother does not care, can we finalize the adoption with only one attorney.

She needs her own attorney, especially if she is in another state. Is she getting an education or counseling? Is she reading anything? Is she getting any guidence at all? A well informed decision is important to the child that may be yours as well as the expectant mom. If you need resources in OH contact me at brenr@openadoptioninsight.org

Actually you'll probably need three...Ohio Attorney for you (to handle TPR and that end of ICPC), atty for pbparents, and your AZ atty (other end of ICPC, finalization). This will ensure that everything is handled appropriately, and that ICPC will (hopefully) go smoothly.

Ryan's bparents didn't feel a need to have their own representation, we asked them to 'humor us', they did, all was fine.
