confused but ready to start adoption proccess

My hubby and I want to adopt. I have been reading materials about adoption. We want to adopt a caucasian baby or infant. We havent talked to any agencies yet. But have read some posts and seen costs of $10-20,000 for adoption. We want to adopt, but holy cow! The process is expensive up front. We need a homestudy, etc and that is expensive. Can anyone give us advice as to what a good agency is, how to go about getting all the homestudy and stuff done and also an agency that isnt expensive. We want to do it now, right now and we dont want to wait. We see some of you say the same thing, the waiting is the worst.

How can we adopt now and not get gipped by adoption agencies that make us pay sooo much for a baby or infant!

you aren't paying for an infant...you are paying the fees for services you and the birthmother recieve, and the work the agency is doing on your behalf. I agree that the fees are daunting, sometimes, and it can be very disinheartening. But, I know so many of the agencies work on many potential adoptions every year, many of which dont ever occur, so they dont recieve any compensation for that work, then they have to charge larger fees for actual placements, just to keep operating. So, they are not trying to con you in any way, it's just, unfortunately, a fact of life.

We went with pauquette adoption services. (www.adoptpas.org or.com i think)They were awesome and i cant speak of them highly enough. I interviewed, researched, and checked references on many agencies. They were not the least expensive, but i found them to be the most knowledgeable and down to earth.
