Smile My introduction...

Hi! I posted my introduction in the foster/adoption forum but was directed to this adoption forum. I'm really happy to see this board for NC Adoptive Parents. I am looking for a place to turn to for friendship, understanding and advice during our adoption quest.

I'm currently a SAH-school mom to 4 biological children (16, 14, 10, 4). I have been married to my best friend for almost 18 years. It's been a dream of ours to adopt a large sibling group from the foster care system so they might be kept together and have a family to call their very own.

We live in the mountains of North Carolina, relocating from our home-state of Indiana in 2002. We bought a 3-story 6-bedroom 4-bath home in July and have found where we want to live forever. We feel like we are in a great position to begin the process toward adoption.

I spoke with a lady today from Children's Home Society that is going to start helping us fulfill our dream. She said we will be ready to begin looking for our match in about 3-4 months. Has anyone dealt with Children's Home Society and how difficult is it really to adopt children in NC? (I keep reading negative things about adopting a waiting child in NC.)

I have so many questions about being an adoptive mom and being the mother to such a large family (we are considering a sibling group of 5 for a total of 11 family members). There are many things I want to sort through and figure out over the coming months. I would love to be an active part of things here.

Thanks so much for reading my introduction. Best wishes!

Smile CHS

I'm in the mountains, too! My DH and I had been foster parents with DSS for nearly 6 years before switching to CHS this past summer. We are feeling far more positive. The CHS worker here is GREAT!
We are hoping to add to our family- soon! It is so hard to wait!

Talking Childrens Home Society

I am in the process of working with Childrens home society as well. We will be using them for our home study. So far they have worked great with us. We have yet to get started (awaiting funds) but we are on a journey of a life time! I hope all works well for you, I bet your home is just beautiful, what I wouldnt give to live in the mountains and in a huge home like that!
