Smile introducing myself - new member

Hello, everyone! I just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself and thank you all for being here. My husband and I are beginning the adoption process as this new year begins. A little about us - we had been trying to conceive since our wedding 5 1/2 years ago. I've been wanting to adopt since the beginning; my husband needed to try to conceive first... 5 years and many, many heartbreaking fertility treatments later, here we are! We are both excited about this journey. We are hoping to adopt domestically. I would really appreciate any advice, helpful hints and thoughts. Thanks! ...and Happy New Year to all of you!

18 months ago I was in your shoes. Today I am the mom to an adorable 6 month old little girl. I love sharing our story and watching other families form. Welcome to the forums and to the wonderful world of adoption.

Smile Thank you, Sue

Hi, I'd love to hear your story if you're still willing to share it! We've made an appointment with an adoption attorney for next week and I'm so excited to get the ball rolling, so to speak. We are also going to attend an adoptive parents support meeting on Saturday. Well, thanks for responding to my post - it doesn't feel as overwhelming when you feel connected to someone out there. Have a good night!
Warm hugs,
Carmela

Hello from another person who was recently in your shoes! My husband and I adopted our daughter this summer. We wound up doing a domestic, independent, open adoption. We had also looked into doing an international adoption (Guatemala) and were actually in the middle of compiling our dossier for that last spring when we were contacted by our daughter's bmom for the first time. We began the adoption process in the summer of 2002 - meeting with an adoption attorney, homestudy, etc., and we brought our daughter home from the hospital in June 2003. We went through a lot of very extreme ups and downs and heartbreak along the way, but it was most definitely worth it in the end!! Emma is the joy of our lives!

I wish you and your husband luck on your adoption journey. If you are in western NY, I would be happy to highly recommend our adoption attorney and our adoption social worker - both are incredible people and we wouldn't have made it through the process without them!

If you ever want an e-penpal, feel free to drop me a line!

Sincerely,
Heather

I'd love to know the names of the social worker and attorney you used. We were not impressed with ours and I am currently working with several families that might appreciate the referral.

I also just replied to your e-mail.

I was also once in your shoes (5 years Infertilty, etc.) We now have a beautiful baby boy (4 months old) and we are in the process of adopting our second child (domestically) within the next month.

Hang in there! The worse is over. Once you made the decision, you are well on your way to be parents!

Good Luck.

Hello

Hi There
Last May me and my hubby were in the same boat as you. we had been married for 4 years and tried unsuccessfully to conceive all that time. I had cancer 12 years ago, and was told I could not have kids. But than I got pregnant a year and a half ago! I than lost the baby 4 months into the pregnancy. We needed a year to grieve and than we started the process of a domestic, private adoption. We live on Long Island and had the best lawyer, and everything went really well for us. I would love to tell you all about it and give you lots of hints! We have reccomended 4 people to our lawyer, and they are well on their way to adoption. We adopted a beautiful newborn from Tennesse in November. We had an 800# installed in the house, and in Sept.we had a call from our babies birthmom, and the rest is history. Email me if you want to hear more...and good luck to you!

Hugs
Christine

At this time I have an excellent lawyer who has worked with me on a child support issue. He's willing to do my adoption work too but doesn't understand the laws as well etc. I'm in Buffalo, NY - can you email me about your attorney ??
