I am guessing that this is not new news to most, but it was to me, so I thought I'd share.

In addition to the $10k Ferderal tax credit for domestic adoption, as of Jan 1, 2003 NYS is also offering a $5k credit (doesn't mention any exclusions ie: international). Bill A05345

Do you have any more info on this for NYS? I went to their website but couldn't find anything. Has this bill been passed into law?? Any information you have would be helpful.

Hi Anne-Marie

Here is the copy of the bill, and it has already gone into effect (as of Jan '03). We are waiting to talk to a tax accountant to find out exactly what we need to do in order to take advantage of both tax credits. You may want to print out a copy of the bill and bring it with you at tax time.

We have our accountant checking into this credit. He believes it may have been a proposed bill that was NOT actually passed.

Will post results when I hear more.

Haven't heard anything back yet. I will have my husband give him another call today. I may do some extra research on it this afternoon as well.

Still nothing from the tax accountant, but I did e-mail my assemblyman in hopes to find out whether the bill was passed. Usually they are pretty good about getting answers. Looks there was possibly some activity on the bill on 01/07/04.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Accountant has been e-mailing legislators everyday and has yet to get a single response. I never got a response from my inquiry either. We have another tax accountant looking into it as well, but can't imagine he's going to have much more luck than we've had. Maybe I'll try Louise Slaughter today, I've heard she is really good about getting things resolved for people. I'll let you know if I hear anyting. Feel free to try contacting others in hopes of an answer.

I have also sent emails to both Assemblymen/women from my area to get some info from them.

If I don't get something back this week, I may have to take a ride over to their offices!!

Hi All-

I just heard back from my Assemblyman (Howard Mills)
According to his email, the bill has not passed yet and was referred to the Ways & Means Committee. You can check the assembly website to keep a track of it. The Assembly website is assembly.state.ny.us and click on Bill search & legislative information and just enter the bill number.

I guess I'll check back in a few weeks to see where it is.

UPDATE: According to the website, recent activity on this bill is:

08/11/2004 held for consideration in ways and means

Not sure what that means, but "consideration" sounds better than rejection. Maybe I'll try to follow-up on this with the assemblyman.
