Smile From Indiana

Hi! I'm Glenna, from Butler (NE corner of the state).
Adopted one already. She came to us at 6 mo. old from Guatemala. Worked with Hand In Hand, Albion, IN...wonderful agengy!!!
Adopting again, a 7 yr. old (soon to be 8), also from Guatemala.
No bio children.
Wish I could adopt about five more...but finances won't allow it.
Best wishes to all of you who are currently in the process!

Glenna

My DH and me in the process of adopting. We are from a small town in Southern Indiana called Orleans. We are getting ready to do our office interview in couple weeks (before homestudy). I am so nervous. We are planning on doing a domestic adoption. The agency we are going through is Adoption Support Center in Indy.

Question Glenna

I have a curious question. I know that a lot of people choose international adoption because of the fact that a birthmother isn't there to change her mind if they are doing an infant adoption. You said you are adopting an older child internationally...what made you choose international adoption? Especially since you said finances stop you from adopting more like you would like...most older child adoptions in the US cost nothing and the children oftern have subsidies till age 18. So just out of curiousity, what made your decision?

Unhappy First Adoption

Hi, we are Rich and Ronetta, we have been matched with a birthmother for the first time, well technically it's number two, but the first one changed her mind....what a rollercoaster ride this has been for us already. We recently completed all of our pre adoption paperwork through a local agency and have been waiting for 4 months. Well, this birthmother found us outside the agency, therefore it will be a semi private adopiton. Anyway, we met with this girl and her mother last week and have a good feeling this one will work out. The girl is about 6 months pregnant and is due in January, she happens to be due on my birthday.
Since we are new to this, we would accept any advice anyone may have to help us through this emotional time.

Thanks for listening, and God bless to everyone!!!

Our update

We have 2 children through adoption. Madalyn (domestic, open adoption) is 3 and Jack (domestic, open adoption) is 11 months. We live in the Fort Wayne area.

We used an agency to adopt Madalyn while we were living in Minnesota and we used an attorney to adopt Jack here in Indiana.

We have open adoption relationships with both of their bmoms, including letters, phone call and visits.

We are also using Adoption Support Center in Indy for domestic adoption. We are waiting (7 months now) for our first child. We haven't been matched yet but love the agency and feel very nurtured.

We recently learned there is a need for families for Hispanic babies born in Indiana and we are considering opening this door. We are Caucasian. Has anyone adopted an Hispanic child and can you comment on your experiences in our very Caucasian-centric State? Or any other transracial adoption experiences?

Thanks!

Just wanted to update what has happened since I posted last. We had our homestudy and I found out yesterday it was approved! I am really excited. I know we are at the waiting part of the adoption, but I cannot help but be excited that we are closer to finding our child. thanks!
