The Open Door

Linny:
My husband and I are using the open door. We have been and are very satisified with them. We have turned in our life book and are anxiously awaiting our call. They have always been willing to help and take our phone calls at any time.

Best of luck
Sandy

Open Door

The open door sends many children to Canada. I personally know many precious children that that agency has placed up here --- from there.

The only criticism I have heard (and it actually made our news here) is that they have a two tiered cost system ... its ALOT more expensive to adopt a white baby through them than a black baby. Also, I do have three friends that had the mother's change their minds ... I believe there is a 6 week revocation period. One friend close by is parenting 3 beautiful aa girls that all came from that agency.

Good luck. I think their wait time is around 1 year.

I spoke with them twice last week and was told that after consent is signed there is a 10 day revocation period, no questions asked, after that they would have to prove fraud. But it can take up to 3 months to terminate the father's rights if he has ignored the letters and notices, so it would be a legal risk placement. They did say that the babies can be kept in private licensed foster care until the 10 days is up. I was really impressed with the info I received and we are considering placing an application with them.

Thumbs up Open Door Adoption Agency

I only regret that I didn't find this thread months ago! My husband and I are Caucasian and we adopted our African American son through this agency. I have nothing but the best things to say about Open Door and Betty! We submitted our application in April of 2003. We completed and submitted our lifebook in May of 2003 (we already had a completed homestudy...we were just looking for the right agency). We received a call on July 31, same year, from Betty and a caseworker telling us that if we accepted, our son was 9 days old and the waiting period would be up at midnight that night and we could come pick him up any time. We didn't get chosen by the birthmom until he was 9 days old! I can't tell you how shocked and pleasantly surprised we were! The Care Family that cared for our son till we could pick him up is still and integral part of our lives. The bonds we've formed with the people involved in our adoption mean so much to us! Open Door moved swiftly in helping us complete our adoption, which happend December 15, 2003, nine months after we'd started the process with Open Door! From the time I was handed my son at the airport till the day we finalized our adoption was only 4 months! I know that every story is just as different as the child being placed, but I would use Open Door in a heartbeat! They have been such a blessing and were so patient with me. Dh or I one called them at least once a week <<blush blush>>. If anyone ever has any questions concerning Open Door that I could help answer, please don't hesitate to e-mail me. I LOVE this agency for all that they've give me and dh! I only wish I could share with you a picture of my sweet little one, whom I never tire of hearing calling me "mamma."
