I am wondering if anyone out there has any information on the adoption of an adult step child. My step daughter who I have been raising for the last 7 1/2 years is wanting me to adopt her now that she has turned 18. Her mother has not been in the picture for 7 years and she really wants me to be her official parent. Does anyone have any information on this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

I've never heard of adopting an 18 year old. I know it happens, but I don't know how to do it. I guess you would contact an attorney??

congratulations on being such a good mom that your stepdaughter wants to make it official! It may vary by state but I know it's possible to adopt an adult. Try contacting your local bar association and asking to be referred to a lawyer who does family law. Good luck!

My daughter wants her step dad to adopt her. she is 18 now. we would all love for that to happen. Does anyone know how to do that in California?
