My husband wants to adopt my older son....the problem is that my son's bio-dad doesn't pay support very often and visits irregularly. I know he would never consent to the adoption. He is listed on the birth certificate. We reside here in GA, but bio-dad lives in FL....any advice?? How about doing it w/out lawyers to save on money?

Hi MrsTC!!
Did your husband every adopt your son? I know this may be late in replying, but I adopted my husband's two children about 5 years ago. Their birth mother abandoned them and moved to Florida. She was SUPPOSED to pay child support but didn't. My husband and I went to our lawyer to ask about me adopting the kids. We had to get the kids' birth mother to sign over her parental rights and then we proceeded with the adoption. It cost us $500 for attorney and court fees plus I had to get a physical and have my criminal records checked. It was all very fast and easy (once she signed her parental rights over). His, MrsTU ![]() |
