I am a new Foster/Adopt mom looking for others for mutual support. My husband and I are adopting a sometimes wonderful/sometimes difficult 9 year old boy through DFS.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone with any wisdom or insight into this. It has been a long hard road to get this far, and it appears it is going to be even harder from here on in. I will appreciate any replies. There are days right now when anyone friendly is a change from what I am dealing with at home! ![]() Heather |

i am a foster/adopt parent from mo. my son is also sometimes wonderful sometimes difficult. i feel like this is more due to his age (2.2 years old) than his circumstances. what kinds of things are you looking for advice on dealing with, dfs issues or raising an older child from the foster care system issues (or both). are you in any type of support group for foster/adoptive parents? you can pm if you like. good luck!

If you are anywhere near the KC metro area I would urge you to join MFCAA. They are a large foster/adopt support group that provide training, support, and services for families.
I adopted 4 boys through MO dfs when they were 8 & 9. MO has been a pretty good state to work with and does seem to have a lot of case workers who understand the issues abused children face. Feel free to ask questions. |
