I remarried and my new husband would like to adopt my daughter. The bio-dad is not listed on the birth certificate but is listed as the natural father through child enforcement. He signed his claim, however, he hasn't seen my child in 7 years. She's 8 now. He also is in prison until 2004.
My new husband has a felony record (car theft) and I was wondering if that might effect the adoption. We want to know if we are able to file for adoption without hiring a lawyer to save on costs. Also, I know the bio-dad will NOT be contesting the adoption or have any issues giving up his parental rights (if he has any at all)by saying he's the father. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. mattie_eva@yahoo.com
