Question for you all?
We have a possibility of doing a private adoption and I was told that we still needed to do a home study. Do any of you know if that is the case in Idaho? I thought that a home study was only required if we were doing an adoption through a agency? Just looking for some answers. Thanks all

I went to the site but couldn't find the information. I have always been under the impression that you DO need to have a home study done before a child can be placed in your home. Is that correct? Please let us know. |

Answer to my own question part2
Well here is what I know. (its not a lot, but...) from my talks with my laywer and reading the statutes on that web site. Here is how the web states the answer.
statute 16-1506 sub paragragh (3) Prior to the placement for adoption of any child in the home of prospective adoptive parents, it shall be required that a thorough social investigation of the prospective adoptive family and all of its members, consistent with the rules regarding such investigations promulgated by the department of health and welfare, shall be completed and that a positive recommendation for adoptive placement shall have been made. The social investigation may be performed by any individual who meets the requirements of the law. So the answer is yes a homestudy is required. So now we are going to do a home study. and get finger printed and move forward. We do have a lead on a young woman that wants to put her soon to bee born baby up for adoption so we have to get the ball rolling. Hope that this helps all of you. God Bless in your search to adopt. ![]()

Homestudy Idaho
We adopted our son in Idaho without a homestudy, however, we weren't looking to adopt when we were asked by the family of the bmom to adopt the child. She was due in 9 days! The day after we decided to adopt him (8 days to birth and counting) I got paperwork from Lutheran Social Service (in N.Idaho) to start the adoption process. We took the baby home from the hospital before the homestudy was completed. Everything for the homestudy was completed by the time our son was about 6 months old and our adoption was finalized when he was 8 months. You are able to have the baby in your care without a homestudy although legally he becomes a ward of the state of Idaho after the bparents terminate rights until the adoption is finalized.

Does it work the same way in Florida? My husband and I are going through the process to adopt from the state , we have finished our classes and are waiting for the homestudy , But now we have a friend who wants us to adopt from her. She would like for us to take the kids ASAP but our homestudy isn't done yet.

Cris 73,
In some states, you can rush the homestudy and take custody either at completion or conditional on completion within X days. Please consult your attorney. Best, Regina
