Mexico 2009
Has anyone adopted or are starting the adoption process now? How has your experience been?
Does Mexico place infants or only children 5 years and older? I have found information here: Country Specific Information for mexico.htm I am having a phone meeting with my agency on Thursday and am going to ask about Mexico. I will post if there is any new information.

I received a response from my agency:
"We have been told by the officials in Mexico that the children they place internationally are the children that are not adopted in Mexico. The majority of the infants and toddlers are adopted by Mexican citizens and the children that are not adopted, ages 5 years and older, would be the children that would be placed internationally. Once we are established in Mexico, we may be able to place younger children but that may be awhile before that happens."

Do you if the process is different if you can locate an infant on your own. We know of a woman who will give her child to us to adopt/not born yet, but we dont know who to contact to process it for us, would a local attorney be the best bet? we already have our homestudy, our I171H, and dossier. Thanks for any info. Elizabeth

Because both the U.S. and Mexico have ratified the Hague Convention on intercountry adoption, you probably will NOT be allowed to do a private adoption.
