How hard would this be? Mexico adoption

We have friends who run an orphanage in Mexico. They just had a teenager placed with them. She was taken from her family because she was abused. When she arrived at the orphanage they found out she was pregnant.

My first thought was that we could adopt her baby! Of course, I don't know if she plans to parent or anything else. But, supposing she chose to place the baby for adoption, how difficult would it be for us to adopt the baby via a private adoption? We would have foster care for the baby through the orphanage until the 3 month mark is up.

Just humor me if you have time

My understanding is that it is quite difficult for Americans to adopt from Mexico. It appears that there is a six month period during which the child must live with the prospective parents before the adoption is final and the child may not leave Mexico during that time.

Just a note: It might make some feel uncomfortable that your first thought when you hear of a 16 yo being pregnant is that you can adopt her child. It kinda sounds predatory. I hope that it was just an unfortunate choice of words here.

sorry about my choice of words, that was not my intention. IF the baby became available for adoption, I was just wondering how difficult it would be for us to adopt the baby.

thanks for the info.

Is there a difference between a private adoption between a birthmother and adoptive parents vs. the adoption of a child who lives in an orphanage and is a ward of the state?

thank you
