costa Rica Adoption
we are currently working on becoming foster parents, but also want to start looking into international adoption. We would love to adopt from Costa Rica, as one of our top choices. I am trying to find some recent info on costa rica system, but i cant seem to find any.
can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

From what I recall, only Americans living in Costa Rica can adopt children from there. If you aren't living there, can't happen.

My husband and I have just recently adopted from Costa Rica and it was not easy.
Even though he is a Costa Rican citizen, because we live in the U. S. we could only do private/direct adoptions. We were not allowed to go through orphanages, foster homes, etc. We had his family put the word out to everyone they knew that we were looking to adopt. There are no adoption agencies that can help other than to do the home study in the U. S. You must do all of the USCIS paperwork, etc. It took several trips down there to meet with the authorities, lawyers, judges, social workers, etc. Our son was born in March of 2007, but we were not able to bring him back to the U. S. until January 2008. I don't know how exactly the Hague Convention will effect things, but I don't think there will be an immediate noticeable improvement. I don't mean to be negative because of course I love what CR has given me - my husband and my son. Their adoption program is just unstable as far as I am concerned. |

Thank you for your replies.
We are looking into both ethiopian adoption and domestic adoption now, and weighing our options. We love costa rica and have heard a lot about the children of CR but i cannot totally neglect my 3 kids, to pursue something like that right now. COngrats on getting your son home! that is great!
