Well, it seems as though our (oft-complicated and long-delayed) plans to adopt a daughter from Guatemala have gone absolutely , totally, completely, 100%, awry, kaput, and "adios" (based on the latest DOS Statement, GuatAdopt Warning, and our agency's response).
Part of me is glad that we don't yet have a referral and at least know that we won't be stuck "in process" for who knows how long; or worse have to wonder if we would ever be able to finish- BUT MY HEART STILL ACHES FOR A LITTLE GIRL TO BE A MOTHER TO ! So that's where WE NEED YOUR HELP. We've have researched the basic information on Central and South American Adoption- but want some in-depth feedback from real, honest people who have actually experienced the process. We just finished our homestudy for Guatemala (how ironic!). I'm 35, DH just turned 39, and our son will be 6 on November. First marriage for both of us; I have some minor mental health diagnoses (basically in remission)- and take meds for depression and PMS. We are open to any country in Central or South America within the following parameters (as much as possible): 1) Open to families who already have biological children and are not infertile 2) Allow you to choose the gender of the child you wish to adopt. 3) Children under age 4 (at referral) available for adoption. 4) Limited in-country stay required for one parent. I could stay for 3-6 months if needed; but Hubby has (and will only take) 2-3 weeks PTO per year. 5) Cost of less that 30K total (including travel) 7) Afford access to an reputable agency or contact to work with stateside in Wisconsin, Illinios, Minnesota, or Michigan (if possible). We got "snafued" working with a far-out-of-state placement agency for Guatemala- and we're pretty gun shy about doing such important business soley via telecommunications again. PLEASE PM OR EMAIL ME ANYTHING YOU CAN SHARE. I know my daughter might not be in Guatemala- but I know she's somewhere in Central or South America; You guys just need to help God lead me to her. . . THANKS! ![]()

Have you considered Colombia?
I think it meets most of your requirements. You should be about to adopt a girl probably in the 2-5 age range. Your husband would likely have to stay about 10 days and then could come home while you stay another 3-5 weeks.
List of approved agencies from ICBF: Untitled Document For recommendations you might want to go to the Colombia board and check there.
