Hi Eve, I am not sure about age requirements. I also have no idea about religion. However, I will ask my friend who lives there and see if she can give me any names of Catholic orphanages there.

As far as ages of the children, I know there are sibling groups that have young and older children. The main issue there is making sure they have all their abandonment papers before you start the adoption. I have known of people becoming very attached to the thouhts of adopting a certain child to find out they have not been released for adoption. A child has to be abandoned for 6 months before they are eligible to be adopted.

Hope this helps some.

Connie

It's been a looong haaard journey.

Yes, we're just starting our MX adoption process....

....we're still narrowing down to the agency. What agency are you using (if any?) We're in Oregon and from what I can tell there are no agencies here with Mexico programs.... so we're choosing between Adoptions Unlimited (Chino, CA) and Adoption Alliance (Denver). Where are you in the process?

My husband and I were slated to get two children from Guatemala. My first adoption is in process. The second one I shyed away from because of all of this Hague mess. I'm already very early in the Guatemala process with my son. So we decided not to move forward with another. However my agency has opened a pilot program with Mexico infants and we are moving forward. It is very different from Guatemala, but seemingly much easier... (easier in terms of fewer political/bureaucratic hooops to jump through). We are just finishing up our dossier....

Thanks. I will keep ya'll posted on this issue.

Smile adopting from Mexico

We have a 4 yr old daughter adopted from Guatemala. I would love to know the details of adopting from Mexico.
We are saddened by the current state of affairs regardiing Guatemalan adoptions at this time.

Please PM me any info you have regarding adopting from Mexico. Thanks.

God bless you on your adoption journey.

We, too, are switching from Guatemala to Mexico. Perhaps we should have a new forum for Mexico adoptions? I have a feeling that there will be an increase in the number of families thinking about adopting from Los Estados Unidos Mexicanos.

More Information

I too am looking into Mexican adoption, although Guatemala is not my original country. I have attempted an adoption from Ghana, and though not a complete failure at this moment, it looks like it is heading that way quickly. Mexico interests me simply because I have lived there a couple of different times and places, and I speak the language, which is a part of the child's heritage I could pass down. I have read on the State Department's website about the adoption process, and it doesn't seem all that difficult, expensive, or lengthy. However, I am well aware of the complications that can take place, and I'm hoping someone can enlighten me about this process, and I was hoping also that there were more success stories. I have been unable to find any, other than the one posted here. I am looking into doing the adoption without much help from an agency, as my agency does not have a program for Mexico. They are great, and will help me with whatever they can, but as for dealing with Mexico, I'm on my own. I do have the pledged help of my sister and brother-in-law, who is Mexican and both of them have dealt more extensively than I with the government there. Now I have said so much, I would appreciate any help I can get!
Thanks!

there is not much information bc not much is happening.

Mexico Adoption - International, Agencies, Programs, Information, Costs -
http://www.jcics.org/Mexico.htm
Total Adoptions to the United States

there is very little info out there....bc there are so few adoptions. the list link i posted above shows that in 2008, only 103 kids were adopted from mexico. i have really only seen one family adopt from there in the last 2 years....she has posted somewhere in this forum about it, and i am pretty sure i remember it being somewhat of a circus where she ended up living there for nearly a year in order to get it finalized. one thing is for sure, of those 103 families that brought children home, it doesn't seem that any of them are HERE.

there does seem to be several agencies involved in Mexican adoptions. i have called some of these agencies before asking for information. the info i got was vague, and from what i could figure out, they were unable to nail down timelines or country stay requirements, and the money needed was obscene. it was MUCH more than a Guatemalan adoption.

one thing i would be SURE to ask any agency you decide to work with is how many children THEIR agency has brought home in the last 12 months.

good luck...if you go this route, PLEASE come back and tell us about it!
