How have you found the process? We are considering Belize. We just brought our daughter home from Guatemala about a month ago. Do you like the independence of Belize Adoptions??

I am also interested in hearing more about Belize. . .I've been searching for information but can't seem to find much on it. Or many agencies that deal with Belize - is that good or bad?

I think the reason you've found that is adoptions from Belize are mostly done independently and from what I've learned are very very difficult. I'd recommend joining a yahoo group and learning more. I joined it considering Belize and then quickly changed my mind!

ETA, I checked and it looks like only 14 orphan visas were issued in 2005. It doesn't say anything for 2006. I don't know if they're just slow on updating or if none were issued.

HTH!

We just brought our six year old son home from Belize after an extremely difficult three year long process. For the first 2.5 years we had a terrible, corrupt lawyer. After we finally got hooked up with a kind, capable lawyer we actually got somewhere. My husband had to make 3 trips down to Belize before the embassy finally issued a visa. Our son is completely worth it of course, but it was very difficult! Because Belize does so few adoptions, there is no set path in place and most lawyers and other officials don't even know the correct process. If anyone is involved with an adoption in Belize, I'd be happy to help in any way I can...

Would you please share the contact info for the attorney you used in Belize that got the job done and the name of the one that didn't.
Thanks
