Ecuador starting up again

I just received word that the president of Ecuador has signed a bill to start up the adoption process again. Any day now they should be meeting to start accepting new adoption applications. I hope this is true. I can't seem to find verification of it anywhere on the net.

Question Experience with FANN in Guayaquil

Hi. We have begun the process of adopting through FANN in Guayaquil. Is there anyone out there with experience with FANN?
Also, does anyone know how the adoption laws have changed?

Just opened!

We were just starting to get settled in the long wait period for Colomiba and were told that Ecuador was now open. We are going to start the process to adopt from Ecuador. We are extremely excited our SW said that we may be able to adopt within a year. We are just getting information on the program. Is this your first adoption?

Hi.
Yes this is our first adoption. We actually had our home study this weekend. As we live in Ecuador, we will be doing a national adoption. Just so you know, the social worker told us that they are giving priority to national adoptions now in Ecuador. That may not mean much because adoptions are not that popular within the country.
Have you choosen an agency? If you go through Quito, Humboldt is there. I have spoken with them and they seem to have their ducks in a row. That is the only international agency that I have had contact with.
Wishing you the best of luck!
Ginger

How long of a wait?

Hi Ginger. Wow, that is great that you live in Ecuador. We did pick an agency and we start the home study next week. I have sent in my I600A forms in and we are trying to get any paper work out as quick as possible as we were told that we could possible have a child within in a year, that sounds too good to be true! We were told that nationals get preference, the social worker said that Ecuador has placed about 70 children in the last couple months. So maybe you are next! I speak fluent spanish and I am Mexican. It is almost impossible to adopt from Mexico and extremely expensive but our desire is to adopt from a Latin country.
I have friends that are Ecuadorian, and I spoke to her the other day to get informatin about Ecuador. We are anxious to see what is ahead.
Congratulations on your adoption! I hope it goes quickly for you!
I would love to hear from you and your progress. You can email me whenever you want!
Jo

Ecuador Adoption

Hi, Jo
I saw the two messages: one from Ginger and your reply about adoptions from Ecuador. Ginger is adopting nationally, but you are going through international adoption just like my daughter. She lives in New York and filled out her adoption application in July, 2002. She and her husband got INS approval in February, 2003 and their dossier was sent to Ecuador to the lawyer through their agency. There was a "hold" put on international adoptions up to January, 2004. It is now May 9th and they have not heard anything, just that Ecuador has decided to handle domestic adoptions only. This comes as quite a blow to them. They will know this week. It is heartbreaking. I hope you have better luck. Would you keep me posted?

Ecuador Starting Up

To Wm Lockhart:
Have you had any luck finding information on Ecuador's international adoptions? You posted in January and this is now May, and we still have not heard anything. Could you let me know if you got any new info? Thanks

considering ecuador

Hello everyone. I have been looking into adoption for about 7 months now. I was first interested in Guatemala because it seems to be quicker than any other Latin American country. But I went on vacation to Ecuador in February for 2 weeks. I haven't been there since I was 11 yrs old. I'm Ecuadorian by the way. I visited lots of family. I met a lot of them for the first time. My mother's aunt wanted me to take her grandson. SHe wanted me to adopt him. They saw my two daughters and felt I would be perfect mom for him. He was so cute I wanted to but I needed to consult with my husband who did ot go on vaction with me. Also I don't know how to start anything. I need help. Please help. If I can't adopt my mother's aunt grandson I still want to adopt from Ecuador. Does anyone recommend any agency\ies?

Diana

I wish everyone else luck with their adoption experience. Ecuador is a beautiful country.

Diane,
It sounds as if a door has opened for you. If you still hold your Ecuadorian citizenship, then the adoption should be easier for you. The agency you use depends on the location of the child. Let me know what province he is in and I will let you know if I know of an agency. The best would be to find an adoption lawyer from that province. Contact the U.S. Embassy and ask for a list of recommended lawyers. The lawyer can do the foot work for you.
Good luck.

We are adopting from Ecuador too!!

We are adopting thru FANN/Quito. Our dossier was approved in December in Quito. We are now (still) waiting for a referral meeting.

In Jan the referral meeting was for those whose dossiers had been in Ecuador before July 2003. And then in March/April it was reported (?) that the referral meeting was only for domestic adoptions. Many are hopeful that the International referral meeting will take place soon.

Diana....I have been told that our agency often works with Ecuadorians who now reside in the US. Perhaps they could give you some direction.

dual citizenship

I went to the Ecuadorian consulate & told me how to go about it. Now I need to know if anyone knows of any good adoption attorneys in Ecuador that could probably guide me & assist me w\the adoption. The Ecuadorian consulate I needed to get an attorney from Ecuador, but I'm afraid of being suckered. I don't have a lot of money & i wouldn't want anyone taking advantage of my husband and me.

I'm going to research some more here in the US.

God BLess & Good Luck to everyone.

Diana

Ecuador Adoptions

Good morning Everyone,
We are living in Quito, Ecuador and finalized our national adoption on 20 April 2004. For the person who wants a good attorney, you can email me privately : tracydem@uio.satnet.net. Our attorney has been excellent and I can give you his Quito office phone and his Quito cellular. He only speaks Spanish, so if you don't, you will need someone to translate for you when you call.

Hi, we have a daughter and she is our 5th child overall. Since she has some minor special needs she has been living with us since she was 6weeks old. That has been a huge blessing to our family.

It may be a case with Ecuador that if you are willing to take a child with special needs they are more open to International adoption. I have heard that they are giving preference to national adoptions. However, there are only certain children that Ecuadorians will adopt and they definitely prefer the "normal" kids over the special needs cases.
