My husband and I are looking into adopting a child in Mexico. He was born in Mexico, I was born in the USA. My question is this, I have only 1 bad thing on my police recoed it was a misdemeanor theft charge, I had no jail time and only 6 months unsupervised probation, and that was it, my worry is will I be unable to adopt a child in Mexico because of that. My husbands record is completly clear. We have four bio. children of our own, and we would love to adopt a little girl, and it really concerns me before we even get everything started and our hopes up if that will stop us dead in our tracks. Thanks for your help.

You do have to have a noterized state police record from the state you live in. Most all adoptions require this. It is also part of the home study process. Can you get your record exsponged(SP?) ? That would be your best bet unless you were under 18 when it happened. My husband had a misdimminer(sp?) when he was 21 it was settled out of court he is now 42 and it no longer shows up on his record. We have 4 successful adoptions and a Mexico adoption pending. Sounds like you did go to court. If you can get it exsponged (sp?) The judge and injured party have to agree on it I beleive?? and it cost about 500-1000 dollars. If it was a long time ago many years I would check this option. Now if you can get by with your local police noterized report (varies Mexico state to Mexico state the requirements) you also have to clear the I-600a and I-600 for immigration on the US side thats where we are at now. May God bless you and good luck to you. possible if you adopt and older child from an orph in Mexico they will be more relaxed. We are adopting a n 11 year old girl though it is still dotting the Is and crossing the Ts. We did local and state. May God bless you in your search. I say pray and all things are possible if God wants them to be so.

Another thing you want to check into is your husband a legal US citizen. My husband was born in Central America and he live his whole life her since he was three. He had to get naturalized 3 years ago. He couldnt get a passport but had a social security number his whole life. You have to show both your birth certs and if he is born in Mexico the naturalizaation number and certificate. ( for INS)
