The State Department website hasn't changed...
in saying that Argentina does not allow international adoption. However, to be absolutely sure that it hasn't, contact:
1. The U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires, at BuenosAiresConsulate@state.gov 2. The U.S. Department of State, Office of Children's Issues, in Washington, DC at 202-736-7000 3. The Argentinian Embassy in the U.S., at Embajada Argentina en Washington 1600 New Hampshire Ave, NW Washington, DC 20009 Conmutador (202) 238-6400 Fax (202) 332-3171 Sharon |

International Adoptions from Argentina
Hi Claudia
Actually, Argentina still does NOT accept international adoptions- at least, not from the US: the only kind of international adoptions that the Children and Family Courts sometimes accept, depending on individual cases, is to certain European countries from where immigration to Argentina has always been strong, such as Italy. Other than that, it's a no-no. I'm an Argentine married to an American and I'm finding it very difficult indeed. Right now, I'm trying to adopt a child in Argentina exclusively as an Argentine citizen, but it is still very hard! Regards, Florencia |

Adoption
Flo,
The last I heard was that you cannot adopt from Argentina if you are American. I am waiting since last couple of years for a change in law. I hope it happens soon. I hope you can adopt as soon as possible. Can you not adopt even if you are an Argentine citizen? Or do u have to live in Arg. to adopt?? Hugs Trisha |

Hi Trisha
My dad is a lawyer in Argentina and has been keeping abreast ofthis subject for me...so what I know at this time is that it's very, very difficult to adopt an Argentine child living in the US unless BOTH parents are Argentine. In my case, my husband is American and we live here, so it's not easy. I'm not giving up, though! Regards, Florencia |

Adoption
Flo,
I am sendin you a big hug and best wishes. I hope you get the dream child you are waiting for. I know how it feels. I am not an Argentine citizen nor is my husband. But I am gonna try and do anything possible, wait as long as i can in order to have my baby from Argentina. I hope God gives us our kids who are also waiting for us. Love Trisha |

Hi Florencia;
thanks for your reply. My family imigrated to the US some time back but just as you, my husband is American. We adopted a little girl from Russia who came home in August. My parents travel to Argentina quite often and I had my dad make some inquiries the last time but no go. Please keep me updated if you can if something changes. We will begin our second adoption paper work in January and will probably go back to russia. Best of luck! Claudia |
