Can anyone tell me if they have had any experiences with VIDA agency and Japanese adoption or any adoption with VIDA? Also, has anyone seen any other agencies that do Japanese adoption? This is the only agency I've heard of.

Be careful
I watched a thing on 20/20 about how Japan has problems with adoption. They perfer the goverment rasie children than other people. I saw a japanesse woman fake for 9 months so no one would qustion her about the baby. Don't kill the messanger. So unless you live in Japan I think I would really check this place out.

**I also posted this message in another spot but thought you might still be interested**
Hello, We are the proud parents of a 22 month old boy from Japan who came into our lives at 4 months old. We live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ironically, we just attended a first time get together yesterday with other families who have adopted from Japan. Ten families attended out of the fifteen that joined our group. We are sure there are many more families that we have not yet made contact with. There are two organizations that we went through for our adoptions. I can’t tell you the exact numbers but it seemed the group was about 50/50 with each organization. http://www.baas.org/ http://www.acceptadoptions.org There is also the web page of our new group. I am sure there are people here who would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Japanese_Adoption_Support Best Regards - |

Thanks...can I ask you about fees?
Thanks so much for your reply. We had heard the cost was extremely high for Japanese adoptions...in the neighborhood of 35K-50K. Is that true (hope u don't mind me asking)?
Congratulations on your new little one! How exciting and wonderful! Liz |

Hi Liz,
Thank you for the kind words. I think it is safe to say that Japan is one of the more expensive country’s for international adoption. For current costs, I would suggest emailing either ACCEPT or BAAS. Best Regards - |

VIDA
I've been talking to VIDA in New York. They were not accepting new Japan applications until the fall, but since we wanted to get our home study underway (which takes 2-3 months anyway), they said they would process ours in the summer, but there wouldn't be a referral until the Fall.
I spoke with Life Adoption Services (www.lifeadoption.com), and the website said they did Japan; however, when they phoned me, they tried to talk me into an Asian child from Vladivostock, and discouraged Japan adoption due to the high cost. BAAS and Accept do Japan, but only for families in Northern California. We will most likely go with VIDA. I spoke with 2 families that adopted through them about 2 years ago, and their costs (including travel) were between $35K and $50K. Hope this helps! Susan |
