Adopting from Taiwan
There are actually two ways to adopt from Taiwan -
independently (without an agency) and with an agency. There are several agencies that have programs in Taiwan, including: Christian Salvation Services: Likes families 45 and under, only 2 or less children, two years between placing children in the home. St Lucy's - See their webpage for information Cathwel - At Cathwel, the birthparents have a say in placement, and they might be less willing to select older parents or families with lots of kids, but it didn't disqualify us. You send a copy of your dossier, and Cathwel translates it and then tries to find a child. They prefer people under 45 for babies. Fl Home Studies - Bonnie Loza is a great person to contact! Full of information, responds quickly. Told me that age/# of children would not remove me from the process. Obviously, not a newborn, but an older child would be possible, special needs and healthy. Note: I have e-mailed Bonnie Loza several times at Fl Home studies and found her very informative about the process of adopting in Taiwan. Thursdays Child- Their web page says they have a program, but I have yet to hear of anyone using them and they have not answered my request for info. There are some waiting children photo listed for Taiwan on the Florida Home Studies home page at http://flhomestudies.com/ And you can find some at http://www.comeunity.com and look at the "waiting children of Asia" page (I think Cathwell and FL home studies lists there, as well as CSS). There are also a couple of Yahoo groups that support parents who have adopted from Taiwan - one is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Adopting_From_Taiwan Mary (list owner of Adopting from Taiwan) |

Adopting from Taiwan
We are in the process of adopting from Taiwan. We are waiting for our INS fingerprints to clear before we can be on the "official" wait list from our agency, New Hope Child and Family. We are getting anxious already, and there is even more waiting to do. We are praying for a very quick referral process. If our paperwork is submitted in Jan., we could potentially get a referral in a couple of months. I guess the Taiwan courts require that the adoption be finalized before the parents travel, so that's another 3-4 months before going over there. If we can travel by summer, that would be great. Realistically, we might be looking at fall.

Taiwan Adoption
We send our homestudy and pictures this week. We already have INS approval. We are hoping to bring our daughter home by March.
I hope all goes well with your family. Best wishes. cc |
