Southern Adoptions
Has anyone used Southern Adoptions in Philadelphia, Mississippi for a Malaysian or Guatemalan adoption? The Malaysian program looks very fast and easy but I'm concerned that I don't see anyone posting about Malaysia. Any information about Southern Adoptions or Malaysian Adoptions?

Adopting from Malaysia
Hi PLK
I would suggest that you visit the US State Department site: http://travel.state.gov/adoption_malaysai.html There you will find more specific requirements for a Malay Adoption. You will also find contact information, including an email address for the government office in Malaysia that processes international adoption. It is my understanding that Malaysia has a residency requirement, which means that prospective adoptive parents must reside in Malaysia for a specified period of time before the adoption can be completed there. I share your concern, the agency's website makes the process seem overly simple and they really stress the "young" age of the babies. Good Luck janet |

Toni,
I am the one who is living in West Malaysia. Earlier this week I talked to the INS in Singapore regarding some adoption questions and the guy there came right out and asked me if I was looking to adopt from Sarawak (East Malaysia). He told me the INS is still discouraging adoptions from there and that basically nothing has changed as far as the adoption laws go..... (making sure that a baby is relinquished/abandoned legally etc with the proper/legal paperwork). I would say that a person will be indeed "taking their chances" and it could be a long road home with their baby if they do decide to go ahead with an adoption from there..... Just my two cents....for whatever that is worth. Please let us know if you do decide to go ahead and keep us posted on what happens...we will certainly be interested in knowing. |
