Adopting from New Hope

Hi Nicole,

The New Hope Taiwan program is brand new. There are actually two new Taiwan programs at New Hope. The one we are going with is St. Lucy's Center in Tainan (go to http://www.stlucycenter.org/) for more info on the orphanage. We are couple number 2 of the 3 that are pioneering this program at New Hope. We are now through the Superior court in Taiwan and are waiting for the District court date which will tell us when we can travel to Tainan. We got our referral back in September and are getting anxious to go get our baby.

Everyone at New Hope has been just great. They have travelled twice to St. Lucy's to check on our baby. They have taken tons of pictures and video. Basically done everything they can while we wait for the slow gears of the Taiwanese government to do their thing.

How long did you wait for a referral? Can I ask how old your baby is now? How much longer do you think you will have to wait? How long is your trip going to be? I would be interested in any information that you could give me.
Congrats on your little one. I t sounds like things are going smoothly.
Keep in touch.
Nicole

Hi Nicole,

We got our home study, INS, and dossier done at the end of August and we got our referral a month later. The time line can vary; I hear now that referrals are taking longer. Our little girl was 6 1/2 months at the time of referral, but by the time all our paperwork was translated and sent over a month had passed. Our paperwork was not submitted until the end of October. First the paperwork goes to Superior court which can take a couple months, then it moves on to the District court and you are then at the mercy of whatever rotating judge you are assigned. The best case senario is a few weeks, worse case is 5 months. As soon as you get your court date you travel in 30 days. It is recommended you spend 5 days in Taiwan to complete the travel documents.

I would recommend you read the excellent account of this trip:

Our daughter was 1 year old March 3rd. We hope to get the call to travel at any time.

Thanks Nicole,

Are you thinking of going through New Hope for your Taiwan adoption? How far along in the process are you?

We are acturally in the process of adopting through South Africa right now. We are waiting for our referral and will travel about 5 weeks later. We should be hearing something anytime now. anyways, we were going to start the process in SA to adopt another infant shortly after we finish the first adoption, well to make a long story short, SA has closed adoption for new applications and we won't be able to do a second adoption right away again. We are looking into Taiwan, and Haiti for our second adoption. If you have any information, it would be of great help.
Thanks -Nicole

CHILI CRUZ ??

Hi! My husband and I are waiting for our referral from Taiwan. We actually started the adoption process in May 2002. We have been waiting for a referral since January 2003. It is much harder to "wait" than we thought it would be. Especially since there is not timeline for when to expect a referral.

We just wondered how long it took for the whole process for you. Also, we are waiting for a referral from CSS. Do you know or have you heard anything about this orphanage in Taiwan.

Thanks for you help. I hope you bring your daughter home soon!
CAROL
