Question Bmi???

Are there any Asian countries which do not have a BMI regulation, or any that will make an exception to the regulation for a special needs adoption? Thank you, Karen

All Korean adoptions, via any U.S. agency, go through one of four social welfare organizations in Korea. My understanding is that two or three of the four agencies do not have BMI requirements, but evaluate people's health status on a case by case basis.

Taiwan does not have a centralized adoption system. There are several social welfare organizations placing children, and it appears that not all programs have strict BMI requirements.

I do not know whether Thailand has BMI requirements, or whether this is an agency issue. I've seen one agency list such requirements.

Hong Kong, though technically part of China, is allowed to have its own adoption program. Most of the children available are older or have special needs. I have not heard of any BMI issues with this program.

Remember that India and Nepal are considered Asian countries. I am not aware of any BMI requirements with these countries.

Kazakhstan, which has both Asian and Caucasian children available, does not seem to have BMI requirements, though agencies may.

Consider the Philippines, an island nation with children of Asian appearance. This country is Hague compliant, but I am unaware of BMI requirements.

Question Thank you Sharon... I have another question...

Thank you Sharon, you've helped us tremendously. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I do have another question. How do I find the four social welfare organizations associated with Korea? One of my best friend's is Korean, and Korea was at the top of our want list to adopt from. However we thought they were BMI regulated. We would love to know how to get a hold of the 4 social welfare organizations that you spoke of. Thank you so much in advance. Karen, Dave, and ds Caleb

If you go to adoptkorea.com, you can find a list of U.S. agencies with Korea programs, by state, and the Korean agency with which each is affiliated. This site is NOT agency-affiliated, but is run by an adoptive parent.
