Hi there! I just wanted to share my previous experience in applying for international adoption for a child from the Philippines. I had read that if the adoptive parent is of filipino ethnicity, the application goes forward much quicker. Also, there is a requirement to be a practicing Roman Catholic. Everything looked like it was a shoe-in, but once the orphanages heard that I had a familial kidney disorder/insufficiency, my application was rejected. I was working with an international adoption agency, and when they received this info, they called other orphanages in other countries in Asia. All rejected my application due to my health history. I was told even people with diabetes were not considered. I have a very good job, a loving family, and a solid home, so not being considered was quite a shock for me.

This has deterred me from international adoption and now am researching domestic adoption. I wanted to just pass on my own experience. I do not in any way want to deter anyone from international adoption. I go to the Philippines every year, and those kids could really be helped and live a more fruitful life if adopted to be raised here. We have so many blessings here, just follow your heart with how you want to share your love!
