I am so happy. Today we met with the social worker from our agency for the first time and we are officially matched with a birthmother due in August. The baby is bi-racial (AA/Caucasian) and our agency specializes in minority placements. We are caucasian.
I've been researching agencies since November and emailing them, etc. Finally, Thursday, I decided to call this agency and inquire about their fees, and I talked to the social worker and she was very friendly and excited to talk to me. She asked us to come to their office and meet with her (it's about 250 miles from us). We discussed our income, qualifications, etc. We told her about my husband's criminal record (I had sent for it and had it with us) and other concerns. She said what he has on his record will be no problem (because they are misdemeanors and over ten years old) and she thinks we are wonderful! And their fees are lower than other agencies I've researched by several thousand. So we are extremely pleased.
I can't believe this is really happening. We've been married and infertile for 15 years. I've always thought the criminal record would keep us from adopting, so we haven't really pursued adoption til now.
At first, August seemed like such a long time away, but it's not long compared to a pregnancy and we have so much to do to get ready anyway.

Congratulations! Can you say what agency you used? I'm interested in low-cost biracial adoption agencies. We are considering adopting again (maybe).

Our last one was born in August so the time does go by fast. I wish you all the luck, it's a very exciting time!!!
