Can anyone offer any information on how to adopt within the family? Here is the situation: My ex-sister-in-law left her 9 month old baby with my ex-mother-in-law, my ex-mother-in-law is not in the best of health to raise this baby. My husband and I would love to adopt this baby, we have 2 childern of our own. How do we start? Who do we contact? By the way, we are in different states. Please advise, Thanks in advance!!!

Linda, has she given any indication that she wants to place the baby for adoption? As far as leaving her 9 month old, is this something that was agreed upon whereas your ex-Mother-in-law has stated she will care for this baby? Is she even interested in placing this baby for adoption? JJ

contact a lawyer and some agency like Catholic Charities, they do homestudies. because the baby is in another state you will have to get an interstate compact, this is true for most states! but a good lawyer and a place like Catholic Charties will know how to direct you. many blessings...
