Hello,
My name is Laurence (Laurie is my nickname) and I live in France. I would like to adopt one or several children, but I am not eligible right now because I am too young. I would like to find e-pals and, why not, penpals, that are birthmothers, adoptive mothers or families. I speak both French and English fluently, therefore feel free to write in any of them, as you prefer. Looking forward to hearing from you, Laurie |

Welcome Laurie!
Hello there!
What type of adoption are you interested in? What is the age requirement in France? It is so great to get a network of friends before the adoption happens! Let us know a little more about you so that someone can respond to your post. Warm regards, sherryk e-pal moderator

Hello,
Thanks for replying. I am mostly interested in adopting internationally (in Eastern Europe) but would consider any kind of adoption, including open adoptions and adopting a child with ADHD or autism. Why do I want to adopt ? Because children need a loving family, and when we have the chance to be able to give it to a child, adoption is the greatest gift for the adoptive parents who welcome a new child in their lives and for the child who gets a family that loves him/her & takes care of him/her. Concerning the legislation in France... The adoptive single mother (or father) must be at least twenty-eight years old. Couples must have been married for at least two years, or they both must be at least twenty-eight years old. By the way, I have a question and do not know where I should ask it. How do they choose that legal age, which is different from a country to another ? Is it not a little arbitrary ? I am just wondering... Although I am much too young to adopt (I would be in the United-States too), I want to meet people that are living it to know how to adopt so that it will be easier. I would like to be e-pals or penpals with birthmothers and adoptive families to know both sides. As you wrote, sherryk, it is great to "get a network of friends before the adoption happens." I study mathematics & science at home & have a part-time job : I am an independant English teacher ; it means I teach children and teenagers that have difficulties in English at school to help them improve their skills. Also, I teach Shakespeare's language to younger children who are still pre-schoolers, kindergartners or in primary school. I am also interested in music, sports (I practise tennis) & religion. I do not expect those who want to be pen-pals with me to share the same interests but, of course, it would be nice. Feel free to ask questions. Laurie |
