Favorite children's book about adoption

hi everyone,

My daughter, 8 months old, loves to be read to, I am looking for some more books to get for her. So far my favorite is "Tell Me Again About the Night I was Born" by Jamie Lee Curits. I feel she has done some get things for the adoption world.

What some favorites of your children?

I know when our son was born, I wanted to find every book I could on adoption! I want the word adoption to be familiar and comfortable to him! So we had some trouble finding books about domestic adoptions with boys! No luck, tehy are all about boys, but we bought all of the ones we found anyway. We have the Jamie Lee Curtis book and here are 3 others we found:

A Koala for Katie by Jonathan London
Let's Talk About IT: Adoption by Fred Rogers (This one is very good)
Happy ADoption Day by John McCutcheon

I hope that helps you! If you happen to find any books about boys could you let me know please?

Happy book shopping!

There is one called "A Blessing From Above" that is about a kangaroo who wants a baby to love and ends up being blessed with a baby bird who fell out of its mother's nest and into the kangaroo's pouch. I can't remember who wrote it, but it is very cute.

Another one is called "I Love You Like Babycakes", and it is about a mother who travels to China to adopt her daughter. It talks about how they first met and what it was like traveling home on the plane and meeting new family members, etc. Whenever I read this one to my daughter, I just change the country from China to Russia. She loves it!

great book

although it is not about specific types of adoptions, the concept of finding your family through "adoption" is beautifully expressed in David Kirk's LITTLE MISS SPIDER (the first one). The line near the very end that says, "Then Miss Spider smiled and held Betty fast. ' I looked for my mom and i found you at last'" just destroys me!! I'm in tears everytime I read it to my girl (i'm getting better though!)

Nene,

I also have a koala for katie, I agree it is great. I have one about a little boy, it is Oliver by Lois Wickstrom. It is about an aligator-like animal that is adopted and he gets in trouble and is sent to his room where he imagines what it would be like if wasn't adopted.

Another one I like is Never, Never, never will she stop loving you by Jolene Durrant. It is about a birthmohter's love.

I think it is great to be able to share our favorite books. Thanks everyone.

I agree this is great! I can't wait until my husband gets home so we can go out and find the 2 you suggested! I just love reading to my son. We read about 15-20 minutes twice a day! We have been doing this since he was born, in fact we took books to the hospital with us! It is such a sweet time with him! Happy reading!

A Mother for Choco by Keiko Kazca is also a wonderful book about adoption. Short enough for toddlers with wonderful pictures. Especially good for those who have had foster children and have adopted through that program. My 3 1/2 year old son loves this book. Little Miss Spider was also his favorite. I'm glad someone mentioned it. I had the same problem getting through the last 2 pages myself. Hard to do without choking up.

I was just thinking about this subject today. I do home daycare and was hoping to find some books for the kids I watch to help introduce them to adoption.
I already have the Jamie Lee Curtis book and LOVE it but wanted to find more!
Thanks to everyone for all the titles and ideas!

It's not a book, but the Disney Tarzan movie is a great example of adoption. The song "You'll be in my Heart" is so special.

I just happened to come across this book while looking through the paperback section at Barnes and Noble. It's called Over the Moon : An Adoption Tale by Karen Katz. It's cute with bright colors!
God Bless!

I too like She'll Never Never Stop Loving You by Durant. I gave this book to my daughter who will be a birthmom soon. She will add a few notes specific to her pregnancy and give the book to the ap for the baby.

Books

Hi ,

We have two boys that we adopted at birth - they love the following books - the first one is suitable for a baby /toddler. THe title is The Day We Met You - author is Phoebe Koehler.
The second one is suitable for older children and my 9 year old pours over it daily. The title is "Why was I adopted" - the author is Carole Livingston.
The third book i would recommend is Stephen's Baseball Bat - I can't remember the author off hand.
Hope these suggestions help.

children's adoption book

our son likes Child of Destiny Matthew Was Adopted by Phoebe Dawson. We change the name to our son's when we read it with him. The other one we like is "A" is for Adopted by Eileen Tucker Cosby. The pages are bright and lively and it's a fun way to tell the adoption story and work on our alphabet at the same time.

I love the Child of Destiny poem and am going to have it done in calligraphy and matted for our son's baby book.
