Army couple needs adoption advice

Hi, can anyone tell my husband and I how we can go about adopting a 0-3 year old of any gender and race? We are 23 and 24 years old and my husband is active duty. We would like to learn more about adopting from the state(in general or specifically Georgia or Ohio) and about agencies that you would recommend. Also, can anyone tell us what services Legal Services on base could help us with? Thank you for any information that you can provide!

You might have better luck posting this in the Military Adoption forum.

I am in your same situation, I am 25 and my husband 26 and he is in the Army. We are stationed in Hawaii. We are currently registered with the state to adopt, and truthfully the best place to start looking is at ACS (Army Community Services) They can tell you who to call in the state in which you live. They will also give you a packet that tells you what the army can do for you, they don't do much either, just offer you help with adoption fees. But if you adopt through the state (Dept. of Family Services) there may not be any fees. Also know that most state adoptions through DFS have to occur in the state of residence, they are sometimes willing to work with you on the whole military thing though. This has been a wonderful experience for myself and my husband. Also take note, your servicemember is allowed 10 days of maternity leave upon placement of a child in your care it is part of the Family medical Leave act of either 1973 or 1978. They told my husband no, but I got information on the leave act and when we are placed he will get leave! Good Luck! also feel free to contact me!
