ATIN/IRS form W-7A
I never applied for my ATIN so I'm going to file an extension for my taxes as I need the ATIN to claim my son. How long did it take for you to get an ATIN?

It took us about 4 weeks. You still have time if you apply now.

I think it was 3 weeks or so both times. You should still have time to get it before April 15 if you apply now :-)

I too just sent mine request in. I'm hopeful that it will not take a long time. If it does I will have to file for an extension.

If you are going to get a refund, you do not need to file for an extension. Get the AITN before you finalize because you can not get one after and you will need to wait for the new BC and then apply for a social security number at that point. (Which can take quite a long time). I think it took about 4 months for us to get those after finalization.
