Philippines adoption - X post
Has anyone adopted older children (9-12) from the Philippines? What were your experiences like? What issues might these children have due to their backgrounds? How is the care in orphanages and foster care?
I'm considering hosting a child or siblings this summer, and adoption might follow. Thanks! |

I have friends who have adopted 8 children from the Phillipines. They are missionaries and met the children all when they were working there. The couple actually started an orphanage there and still support it because there were so many children who were abandoned and suffering and needed a home.
The children had various backgrounds but almost all included malnutrition, lack of all basic necessities, and some had serious medical issues. With love and lots of care the children are all delightful young people...but those early issues have not disappeared...there are a few of the children who still have medical issues and several who have a very difficult time in school. I wish you lots of luck!!!

I haven't adopted from The Philippines, however, we did consider it. There is an excellent Yahoo group about adopting from there that you should join. Lots of helpful advice from people who have been there and done that.
