Not so OT- Weight Loss support for all!!!
Well, as many on the "waiting' thread know, there are many of us who have gained significant weight through the fertility drugs, the IVF's, the stress eating, and through the early stages of our adoption process...
SO....since 'I' am starting to get healthy TODAY, i thought that if there are any others here who could offer support, or if this thread could offer support to them, please join us! For ME, my DH and I are simply trying to make better eating choices, cut down on our eating out, and MOVE daily. No secret. We've tried EVERY program out there, and find that simply, calories in-calories out works for us. We would both like to lose about 30 lbs. No time frame, but we want to lose it to stay off... So please, join us! post your weight loss challenges, your successes, a recipe, good choices you made, etc. We'll see if the thread stays active and if so, i'll keep it going! good luck! |

Glad to see someone has restarted this. Prior to adopting I had lost 45 pounds and was in the best shape I had been in for years.
Since baby girl has been home for 11 months, I have gained at least 15 back. Just cannot find the time to go to the gym like I used to. I can usually control my food intake pretty well, but if I don't exercise regularly I can't keep the weight off. I am committed to starting back to the gym...getting that 15 pounds off and keeping it off!!!

I started the HCG diet this week. When I went to the dr's office to start on it they did quite a bit of testing and lets just say I was shocked to see my BMI there in black and white. I've been ignoring it. But I gained 20lbs just during the fertility treatments and about 20 while we were trying to deal with infertility before we ever started treatment!
I finally talked to DH last month and told him that I need to make some changes for me, for him, and for the family we hope to have. We decided that for me that change was to do a medical weight loss program. Funny thing is that the dr's office has my goal at 80lbs...My goal is more like 50. Goodluck to everyone who takes on the challenge! |

I'm in! I'm VERY overweight....there you have it. Out loud, I said it. I'm clinically morbidly obese. Small goal to start. I'd like to lose 10 lbs by August 1. I commit to exercising for 30 minutes at least 2x this week.
Hold me accountable! I'll report in on next Monday.

count me in.. overweight my whole life (except when i was bulemic), but had been stable prior to adoption. Over the past 1.5 years, I've added another 20 pounds.
combination of busier schedule, kid friendly foods, and stress eating (oh, and maybe some middle age spread). I'm not quite ready to commit to a full on diet, but I do need to do something

After a failed match last year, a doctor's appointment disaster and a winded time carrying around my very light two year old niece, I vowed to get healthy in February. I have lost more than 10% of my body weight, work out 6 days a week and can actually say I feel amazing. My motivation has been that I want to be able to run around with my little one, whenever s/he arrives. So count me in. I have found motivation in the waiting. I figure God must be sending me a very active little one because I am still getting fit and waiting...

us too...DH and I figure that our time waiting is the Lord giving us time to get healthy and fit! We've tried to make some better choices over the past couple days and will grocery shop tonight for specific stuff to make some recipes...also, DH exercised today for an hour (omg!) and I will walk tonight and hopefully try a new DVD or something else...
keep it up! for some of us, our babies are waiting patiently until our bodies are ready to take them on! |

Count me in. I had lost 150 lbs but due to fertility treatments and the stress of the adoption process put about 50 lbs back on. We just brought home a beautiful baby boy 2 weeks ago and the stress of the adoption process is finally over. I have to get back on the wagon so that I can get back into running which I absolutely love.

Count me in! I put on about 20 pounds over the course of infertility. I am considered to be slightly overweight, but I'd least like to get my BMI in "normal weight."Though, in a dream world, I'd like more. So basically, I started trying to lose weight about 2 months ago and was using an iphone program. Then, i lost about 7-8 pounds. (Hard to say as I switched scales.) And then I stopped being so regimented with my iphone program. And now, I am stalled. I need to do a good healthy grocery shopping and remove all crap from the fridge, that's my next step!

ok...so, if anybody wants to chat on a specific topic, weight loss regiman, recipe, etc, please post! DH and I are finding it not too difficult to make better choices. i literally had to clean out the fridge and cabinets and throw stuff out. if it's not in the house, we're inclined to choose what is there.
lunch today for me is a lean cuisine, yogurt, a 100cal pack of guacamole with whole grain nacho chips, and maybe a fruit... tonight we're having lean beef grilled with a salad and a serving of baby potatoes. i'm also making a lowfat/lowcarb/lowcal Broccoli Cheese soup for lunches. if anybody would like the recipe i'll post! |

What has worked for me is probably not the most healthy diet, but it helped me lose 45 pounds.
I have a large iced tea for breakfast (I cannot stomach food in the morning). I have an early lunch which consists of a small chicken wrap, or some sliced turkey and an apple. Then I eat an early dinner...which is normally just whatever I make for my family. I have found that cutting out the large or fattening lunch has been the key for me. I also exercise 5 to 6 days per week. I only do 30 minutes per day, because I don't have any more time than that...but if I do it 5 to 6 days per week it seems to work. I either walk in my neighborhood, or if I go to the gym I do the 30 minute weight/cardio circuit or 30 minutes on the treadmill where I alternate running/walking.

This is a great idea and jusst what I need! Three years ago, I went to to my family doctor for my physical and to get a referal to an IF specialist. She said she'd be happy to refer me but that they would tell me first thing that i needed to lose weight. It wasn't like I didn't know, but having my doctor tell me my choices of good food and no excercise could be a contributing factor to no baby...that hit home. I asked her what I needed to do to get healthy. Her advice made sense: drink 8 glasses of water a day and no sodas (even diet); 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day; smaller portions; exercise at least 30 minutes most days of the week. It worked, and I lost 70 pounds. Fast forward to now, I've found half of it again (hello old friend!) and realize its because I haven't been paying attention and I don't have a good motivation now that we've moved off of IF treatments and on to adoption.
My new motivation: chasing around a toddler! ![]() |

Maybe a weight loss Chat once a month would be good? A few of us who are waiting (and one who is no longer waiting..YEAH Laurie) started a chat once a month and we've committed to continuing it til we all get our children...I think there's at least 5 of us from the beginning of the Chat.
How does 1st Sunday of the month at 6PM EST work for you laldies?

I had my son in 1996 and maintained my (overweight/fertility treatment induced weight gain) until this past July. So I weighed 230 when I left the hospital with my DS 15 years ago. I had a hysterectomy last July. I stepped on the scales on Jan 1 and found that I was up to 255. I almost passed out.
The next day I joined Curves gym and begin to cut out sweets and fatty foods. By May I was down to 247. 5 months to loose 8 pounds was NOT working for me. I needed help. I joined the QWL Center and have lost an additional 19 pounds (in 2 months) so I am down to 228. I eat the following each day; 2 servings of protein 3 servings of fruit 4 servings of vegetables 1 serving of milk 3 starches 1 Fat Many people do not like this diet due to the lack of dairy. I make sure to get calcium from other sources. I have talked with my doctor and he feels that the diet is fine since I am so overweight. He has also connected me with a dietitian so that we can be sure that my body does not regain the weight when I reach my goal weight and so that I can implement healthy changes for my entire family. I also drink between 72 and 80 oz of water each day. I have had to have foot surgery and have been unable to workout since March. I hope to be released to workout again in the next few weeks. I have stalled out at 228- meaning I have been at 228 for 2 weeks now. I will not give up. Yesterday I did deviate from my eating plan and had a glass of wine and a brownie. I am a stress eater and contract negotiations for DH and grad school for me totally stressed me out. So today I start with a fresh slate, not guilt from the YUMMY brownie but I know I can't have that kind of food today.
