OT: Summer vacation in Colorado

We are taking a family vacation to Vail soon. We have our 6 year old boy to entertain and our 13 year old developmentally and physically disabled girl. Any ideas for activities? I LOVE to rock scramble and am dying to do some white water rafting but the non walker, too big for a backpack DD makes those things hard. I would love some advice on hiking trails that are minimally accessible (we do have a very good off road stroller for her), or even activities that accomodate the disabled (horseback tours, rafting tours etc. . .) Or even a phone number to call in colorado to get a list of things or places that are accessible.

I just saw this! Sorry!!!

I don't hike much but have friends that do so let me ask them and get their recommendations.

Are you only going to Vail? There are some great activities to do within 30 minutes of there if you are interested in that. Copper Mountain & Breckenridge both have great family activities.

When are you going?

I will see what I cab find out as well. The Georgetown train might be fun. We are more familiar with rocky mountain national park. It has quite a few handicap accessible trails.

Ya, RMNP is definitely one of the more accessible areas and beautiful!

This might help - definitely as a resource to tell you where to go etc. if they themselves don't offer anything for when you are visiting. Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center » About Us

I would love an accessible trail park. My stroller is very heavy duty so I was thinking I will probably be OK even on a ski trial. I know in vermont there were lifts that ran in the summer and you could take it up and mountain bike down. My stroller could definately handle that if either of you are aware of anythign like that in the Vail area. Crick, if its close to you, I would love to get together! I will pm you the dates. I am not comfortable posting when my house will be empty on a public forum!

Vail had biking in the summer at one time....they put you and your bike on the ski lift....wonder if they could also put your stroller?

Also, check Winter Park. During ski season, they run ski schools for the disabled, so they might have some sort of information on summer activities too.

Rafting might be out, I heard from a coworker that the rivers are running WAY high right now....mountains just got more snow yesterday even!
