People on adoption.com
I am always so suprised to see how many people are currently on adoption.com. I am so glad that we have a place to gather, as an adoptive parent in a small town I know that without this website I would not be able to get to know others in the adoption triad very easily.

It is nice to have so many people on. It's a great distraction for me, especially as I have sat next to my son in the hospital for the past 5 weeks. I hope you're able to find all of the support you're looking for and enjoy our group.

So if we're fessing up then I'm addicted too! This is one addiction that is good for you, other than the lack of housework I get done being on here I can't see any bad side effects, at least I don't think this forum has anything to do with weight????

I have to admit this is one of my guilty pleasures while I work. I come all throughout my work day and check to see what people are saying.
Most of the time I just lurk. But i do love the conversations and opinions (even those I dont agree with). |

I'm on here all the time, lurking & posting when I have something to say. I dont have a lot of friends in real life & the ones I do have are always busy, so it keeps me in touch with other adults & it's nice to relate to other people who have adopted.

Me too. I'm a little embarassed to admit how much I'm on here. I really like how we talk about large scale issues -- the meaning of family, race, politics, etc. I think it broadens my mind to hear from the range of you here. I hope it makes me a better mom, too.
Speaking of which, in what other forums do you regularly lurk or participate? I find it fascinating how the rules and tone of each one is different based on the common thread. For me: Crohnszone: for people with and family of people with IBD (inflammatory bowel disease). People there are very close and meet in person regularly. Unfortuantely they tend to meet in London so I've never met them in person but count some as close friends. Nothing like talking about poo to form a bond Wrong Planet: For people with a family of people with autism and asperberger's syndrome. Still getting my feet wet here but the tone is very direct and you must have a thick skin. Most members do not have good social skills and tempers flare quickly. That's why I mostly lurk and rarely write.

Yehudit, your other forums are more serious than mine! I also belong to a private adoption forum that I was referred to by a member here, & a local Milwaukee Moms forum that I just joined last week trying to find friends close to me. So far I havent had much luck, the one mom I really seem to get along with just wants to be email pals for now because she has a hard time trusting people on the Internet. I also visit Gymbofriends sometimes, it's a place for moms to talk about Gymboree clothes, something else I love that gets me into trouble sometimes (they get expensive & Nicole already has way too many clothes) & lots of times they talk about other issues too. I like reading everyone's opinions on here & learn from people who are different from me, & also get advice from people who have been where I am. Adoption brings us all together. What I really wish I had is a best friend to talk to on the phone & hang out with in real life.

I'M ADDICTED TOOOOO!! lol
As soon as I found a.com I stopped going to the other place I was at (Y! Answers adoption). It's fun and interesting to read others' stories and perspectives. I lurk in a lot of the sections on here. I'm in the adoptee section, adoptive parents section, birthparents section, and foster parents section even though I only fit the bill of an adoptee lol. Anyway, i spend SOOO much time on here. It's the first site I'm on in the morning at work, sometimes during work, and FOR SURE after work LOL. I love you all! Keep talking on here, because I'm always listening LOL

I too will proudly stand up and admit that I'm an Adoption.com addict as well. It helps me with my other addictions which are hot tea and coffee. While taking part in one addiction, I can have my other addictions with it.
In all seriousness, I love this community because most people are here to help others and give support, encouragement and advice, and even if the issue isn't one I'm dealing with, I can learn from the responses because one day, it might be my issue. I don't have anyone near me who fosters or has adopted to really talk with, so everyone here has become my foster/adoption community.

I'm a new addict, lol. I came here looking to read stories and general stuff from people that adopted from foster care. Then I stayed because DH and I hadn't told anyone we know that we were considering that once we found our new house and I was all anxious to talk about it and couldn't IRL. And I'm still here now because while we wait out tests to see wth is going on with DH medically I like to read what's going on with other peoples lives because I "leave" mine for a bit. My safe haven therapy, lol. Plus this is the only forum DH hasn't followed me onto
(the other two I don't frequent really anymore, and we know a lot of the people IRL there since I've been a member for years and we've met a number of them by now)... |
