My Little Sort of GENIUS :)

ok So E is 27 months and if he meets you ONCE he remembers the car you drive. If you drive a Black Toyota Prius EVERY time he sees a black prius he'll say "X's car!" We thought it was Logos he was memorizing but it's not, it's the design of the car. We know because he's a huge "Subaru spotter" and the old Subarus don't even have a logo!

He's also great at the game on the show Thomas when they start to do they outline of a tank engine and you have to guess who it is, he knows IMMEDIATELY! Way before we know and we know the engines really well!

Finally he's fast at puzzles. Even brand new ones. reallyreally fast.

I don't think he's gifted at anything really, just average (except movements per second) but what would you call this. He's really into shapes I think! Just visual memory? Design? LOL

I'm fascinated! I also think it's amazing how he can re enact an episode of thomas on his own tracks at 27 months. I would expect that from a 4 year old.

OK I'm done showing off SORRY! I just only ever had this one kid and not sure if it's time to call Oprah or just get real!!! LOL

Really? I was thinking spatial relationships but logic makes sense because he creates outcomes with the trains and then builds up to them...that's awesome!

Thanks for indulging me Tweety!

Not sure what it's called but Castle is the very same way. She is almost 5 1/2 and is working 500+ piece puzzles in about an hour. She also has her own way of working puzzles, one row at a time and will not skip ahead or work the frame first. She also NEVER gets lost, if we've been once she knows the way and seems to spot landmarks very quickly. I just hope this holds up when she starts driving!

Around that age, my #1s memory was INCREDIBLE!!! We'd eat something we had not in a while, and she'd recite where we had it, who was there and all sorts of strange details... Same with gifts she'd gotten, and places we had driven by - no joke, just driven by... Like "hey we saw that store when we went and got ice for the party for Sue..." Like freaky memory.... Maybe it is something about that age too.....

Great on the puzzles though...

Definitely a genius! My older son is quite good at remembering cars too but not like that!

I think every child is born with the capacity for greatness in some area. It's just a matter of having the right exposure to whatever their passion is. Each of my kids have particular things they do that really do astound me. They all seem to have such incredible potential. I used to think that I was simply biased because they are my children. But lately I'm beginning to question that assumption. Maybe I'm right about my kids. Maybe all parents are right. Maybe it's just that we are in a unique position of privelege with our children - we are allowed to see the potential and the greatness that not everyone gets to see (yet ).

Our older son is the same way. He's almost 6 and remembers things that blow our minds. It's so cool to see our little ones unfold like this, huh? I so love each stage!

Yeah...Tyler can jump...with both feet

I think it's great that E has a balance between his need for speed and his ability to stop and process something mentally...Ty has no balance yet. I keep hoping. Today at a play date the other Mom said Tyler was very "sensory driven"...

I've always thought E was a genius anyway!

Yeah A thanks but E unfortunately has no balance....FOR BALANCE. We went back to his favorite "Gym" yesterday and he was really stumbling and falling CONSTANTLY.

Maybe he was excited or something but it's so painful to watch sometimes.

I think active boys are SUPPOSED to run around a lot. I kind of bothers me that people always say it's sensory. I'm not actually so sure now. Maybe they are just super active toddlers.

This just confirms what I already thought, that E must be thing 1's twin. OK, his twin born 4 years later .

Seriously, memory and puzzles are his strong points as well. Great for hi, not so great for you -- you will never be able to get anything past him.

Memory, puzzles, balance, sensory issues, etc. Sounds an awful lot like thing 1. Are you sure we're not related?

I LOVE this! I totally agree! After years of working with kids, this is basically what I ended up believing. When parents would come and tell me how gifted their child was, I sometimes wanted to tell them, "Yes! Your child is amazing in his/her own unique way. Just remember, everyone else's child is, too!"

Storm - That is remarkable. I agree with Tweety that it sounds like he has real strengths at spacial relationships and logic. Sounds like he is a good visual learner, too.

Thanks! But the funny thing is he's really not great at learning colors. In fact what i said up above isn't really true. He's not particular about the color when naming a person's car model. Sometimes he's right but sometimes not.

Color thing is either him "messing" with me or he really doesn't know his colors!!!!

Yes I certainly don't want to walk around feeling superior! All kids have something and THIS kid (yours truly) is still looking for hers!
