understanding baby cries

I think I saw this a while back but since it was recently covered I wanted to share it with you.
I don't understand baby cries! I guess I'm just not an intuitive person when it comes to this. Althea has different sounds at times but I have never linked them to a specific want or need. I just know I have to run and get her when I hear the crying starting! Usually one of several things will stop her crying... often just picking her up. She's such a good baby!
Do/did you understand what your baby was saying with different cries?

We did the Dunstan Method (too late unfortunately) but it worked like a charm until he started babbling.

I don't know why this isn't handed out with birth certificates LOL it's brilliant!!!!

I read info on the method that was on Oprah...can't remember the name of it now, but I used some of that with Ty...mostly though, I just knew what he needed. It was too late with Matty to do that though, and I've just figured his cries out. He doesn't cry much at all though

W had a nasal, whiney cry when he was sleepy and sounded like a p!$$*@ off cat when he was hungry. Those were the only times he cried so I figured it out within the first few weeks. He still sounds like a cat being forced through a meat grinder when he's hungry. I've never heard a human being make a sound like that in my life!

We called the kids 'the geese' when they were hungry, because, well, it's what they sounded like. Other than that, I was never able to figure out what the problem was...

I remember finding out that the sound owowowoww meant tired and feeling awful because E made that cry a LOT in his crib at night which meant that he wasn't comfortable or something and UGH I wish I had known!

Ben literally cried less than once a day from the time I brought him home from the hospital, so I never had to figure out the crying thing. (He cries more now at 18 months then he did as a newborn!) He did, however, make grunting and snorting sounds when he was looking for food and he wiggled all over the place when he needed changed. If he actually cried, it was either because something hurt him or scared him. I think some babies are easier to figure out than others!
