I was at the supermarket today, and there is a manager there who always says hello to DS and me every week when we shop. Today, in a conversation about DS, I mentioned that he is adopted. He looked totally freaked out and was very apologetic for assuming that he was my biological son. It was so funny. I was assuring him that it is ok that he didn't assume he was adopted. He was so embarrassed-looking. Then, the first question he asked was, "Where did you get him?" Again, very funny. I told him where DS is from and he was then very interested in learning more about how to adopt and about the foster to adopt program.

So, I gave him some information and a few websites to check out. It turns out he and his wife have been talking and may be interested in being foster-to-adopt parents! They have 4 children who are biologically theirs, and they have always thought of adopting a child. Isn't it amazing that a simple conversation about your child may end up changing the lives of other children and the people you speak with? I was so glad that we happened to have this conversation today! Just wanted to share this great story with you all.

Happy Friday!!

My grandmother is generally very opinionated, gossipy, quick to judge. Well, she never seemed to have a problem with DH and I adopting. But I could tell she assumed our kids would always be "outsiders" in the family.

One day when the kids were still babies we were at some family gathering. I overheard my grandmother say to my aunt (referring to my kids), "they really just belong here don't they?" with wonder in her voice. That's been my favorite comment so far.

OMG Jules, what a beautiful comment! I'll have to remember that one.
I don't tell anyone they were adopted any more... I just smile and say yes they are all mine!

I hear this a lot, and I'm SO stealing this response!

One day I was walking out of the gym, carrying Matty in his infant carrier, my enormous gym bag, TWO diaper bags, and a crying Tyler, my hair still wet and dripping all over me and in my eyes. A young early 20's guy looked at me in shock and horror and said, "That looks really hard!" I just smiled and said, "Good thing it's really worth it!"

Today I was shopping with Nicole & I saw a lady who was very pregnant. I asked her when she was due, & she asked how old Nicole was. I told her 7 weeks & she looked at my stomach (I'm 5'2" & a size 0) & said, "Wow, I cant believe you had a baby only 7 weeks ago!" I kind of laughed & said, "We adopted her, cant you tell?" This isnt the 1st time people have assumed that she's my birth child, which amazes me because if you look at us it's obvious (to me anyway) that she's adopted. i'm very pale & she's very dark, even if my husband was black I doubt we'd make a baby this dark. Plus I hope I dont look like I just gave birth!

I got this at S's first doctor's appt. I was sitting next to another new mom and her son was a month old. S was 10 days old and she just couldn't get over how quickly I lost the baby weight! I finally gave in and told her S was adopted.
