New camera

DH has been wanting a new camera for a while now. The last camera we got was before we went to China (4 years ago) and it was an OK camera, but it takes about 3.5 seconds to take a picture. Usually, we would have to shuffle thru the pictures and take out half of them because 3.5 seconds is a LONG time with an active kiddo. A lot of pictures were of the back of her head before.

We finally broke down and got a Canon EOS Rebel T1i My only regret is that we did not do this much sooner. The pictures are phenomenal in quality, and the picture takes less than a half second to take. There's even a mode to take multiple pictures at once...for those super fast kids in motion.
No more red eye, which we almost always had to fix before, with our DDs dark brown eyes. And inside quality is just as good as outside quality. I only wish we would have gotten this a week earlier before DDs birthday!
Now we have to save for beter lenses. I heard those can get expensive....More expensive than the camera itself.

Here's a sample of messing around with the close up mode-with the standard stock lens that came with the camera.

Cool shot!

I'd like to get a better camera too. I'll have to check that one out.

My experience is black friday sales tend to be exiting technology. I doubt if the rebel is on its way out.

I want the pentax equivalent. It uses every pentax lens ever made so you can get older lenses that will fit. I believe it also has a metal construction.

DH wanted to purchase a lens on black Friday, and a friend advised us the same as WhirledPeas. It won't be in any black Friday ads. I believe this model just came out in May or June.
We got ours at Best Buy. We have a credit card with best buy that had a zero balance on it. 18 months/no interest. That makes our payments around $55-60 a month for 18 months.
If you have a Kodak, trust me, it's worth every penny without being on sale. Our old camera was a moderate Olympus and there's NO comparison in quality of photos, even when the Olympus was brand new.
I honestly don't know why we didn't do this earlier. DD is growing up, and there are so many pictures that I look at now and realize the memories could have been preserved so much nicer.
DH did a lot of research on this one, and found that it's comparable to a higher priced Nikon, in reports. And in the link on this thread, it's compared side by side to the higher priced Canon Rebel 5D which came out earlier, and shows very little difference in picture quality. If you can budget it, especially on no interest payments, I would just get it as an early Christmas present to yourself. That's what we did. If you're looking for a new camera, this one will not disappoint you. And it's VERY easy to learn how to use.

I have to second that - we went from a Kodak Easy Share with abhorrent shutter speed lag, to the Rebel XTi two years ago, and LOVE LOVE LOVE it still!!! Worth every penny!

I'm a Rebel XTi owner also...LOVE it. I have just two lens and a slave flash, tripod (with remote...they rock!) and some filters. I would love a 50mm or a fish eye lens next but right now what I have is more than enough to get the shots I want

A good place to go for great camera deal is Digital cameras, all other cameras and everything photographic from Adorama Camera.
I got a refurbished Nikon D40 that came with two batteries, a carrying case, 18-55MM lens, 1 GB memory card and a two year warranty for $450.00!

My top "must have" gear is a wide angle lens, a telephoto lens, tripod and flash. The rest like fish eye lenses are nice but aren't really necessary to me.

Oh another thing you will need is Adobe Light room or Photoshop elements for editing. Great photo editing software is a must!
